Car: NONE! and it SUCKS!
I need to learn the Basics....

I haven't dealt with Car audio before, so help me out with some stupid newbie questions:

1. Will any aftermarket CD-player/Radio Tuner be compatible with most cars.
-if not-
Must I match specific brands for certain cars?

-and-
are there year restrictions on installing CD-players in car that previously had no CD and/or no Cassette deck?

Like I said, I'm a stupid freaking newb, so please help me out.

most aftermarket cd players are designed for standard DIN size...

you may have to buy a install kit, all that is is basically just a kit that has the hardware to secure n fasten your new deck in your dash pod... crutchfield has them as well as your local stores (autozone/advanced....)

You will also need a wiring harness adapter, but dont get scared at the thought of wiring it. They come with a plug that fits the existing wiring plug in. You can pick these up at Circuit City, Best Buy Etc. Its easier then you might think actually.

If I was just starting out again, I would buy from Crutchfield. They are a little pricier, but they give you an installation kit and the wiring harnesses you'll need. Plus they give you specific instructions for your vehicle, hot just a generic sheet for every car that comes with a stereo. Crutchfield will also tell which headunits will fit.
