Stolen... time to replace/upgrade

I was the unfortunate victim of another car audio theft. Sucks, man! They stole my Clarion CD player, my Kenwood 350W amp and 2 old Pioneer IMPP 10"s... real old, lol. I didn't have them properly put in yet, just bolted in behind my backseats and covered with my t-top bag, but apparently they still saw them. Anyways, I now have money to replace the stereo system, and since the only real knowledge I have of car audio is reading all your guys' posts/replies, would like your personal opinions...

I have about 500-700 dollars to put into my system. I'm hoping to stay in between 5-600. The insurance company has given me around 200 dollars for my deck and 200 dollars for my amp, along with 40 for subs and 40 for boxes. So, I wana spend around 600 in total (with the credit). I was looking at the custom boxes, and definitely want to go that way, but make it a REAL bitch to steal.

What do you think would sound best for that value? I was thinking Alpine/Panasonic deck, around 250 dollars... an Alpine amp (Phoenix Gold good bang for buck?), and then more than likely 1 Alpine 12"... either Type S or Type R. Progbably Rockford Fosgate wiring, but what gauge do you think would be best?

Thanks for any help

Hey you say you're looking for possibly an Alpine in the 250$ range? I just got the 9807 and it's pretty impressive. It's an mp3 deck, so if you don't plan on playing mp3 discs (and unless you don't have a cd burner I don't see why you wouldn't!!) then there's no need for it, but if you are, I highly recommend it!!
There's also the Pioneer 5500 or 7500 if you're looking to play mp3's, or the Panasonic 903u (i think that's the one) if you don't want to play mp3's, and it has a way cool display.

But I just got front and rear Polk's, and this deck installed and the stereo sounds amazing! I haven't even hooked up the sub yet, can't wait!!

Yeah, I was considering getting an MP3 deck, but it really doesn't matter to me. I just want to make sure the next one I get has sub control, because the previous Clarion one that was stolen, didn't.

I agree go to wal mart for your wiring. Its only like 30.00 there. If you get a expensive deck I would get a deck with sub pre outs and sub adjustment. Im getting like a 320.00 alpine which has these functions +mp3:lala: I would NEVER EVER put a box in the rear seat. Its way too easy to steal. The boxes made for the hatch are quite heavy + arent that easy to get out of there with one person. I got it out myself after realizing I wired it wrong and it took all my strength just to make it stand up inside the well. As for subs/amps you should get Im not sure. Your choice. If your getting 4x6s. I think the infinity ones with the sub/high sepperate look pretty sweet!...Anyway good luck with your new system!

Hey about those infinity's you were talking about.... I don't think they work in an f-body, or so I've heard, unless you have the Bose stock system, or want to fab the dash a little bit.
Can anyone tell me otherwise? I thought for sure I've heard they don't work....
