My first system installation
First off, I have to thank everyone for the wealth of knowledge that is on the site. It really helped a lot.
This weekend I did my first audio system installation in my Camaro. It consists of:
- Planet Audio 4x200 amp
- Single Memphis 10" Sub in a truck box
- Pioneer 6x9's
- 10 Gauge amp install kit
I got everything for free except for the pioneers and the amp kit.
The installation went pretty smoothly, the only thing was that I paid my local car audio shop 10 bucks to drill through the firewall. Knowing my luck, I'd drill right through something that is important. It doesn't thump, but it sounds really really clean, and for the price, I'm not complaining. I'll post some pictures when I get a digital camera.
BTW, I found a great place for the ground cable, no drilling required. Take off the rear panel where the hatch pulldown motor is. There you will find a screw that already has ground for the hatch motor and light.

How can I tell if the 10 gauge isn't hacking it?

ummm in the owners manual of your amp...look for the max current draw of it. im guessing its close to 100 amps but not sure
then you figure how long your power wire is. and go here http://www.eatel.net/~amptech/elecdisc/wire.htm and go to the second calculator from the bottom. put in that you're using 10 gauge and how long it is and it will tell you the max current flow
other than that you can notice it from your amp shutting off when its turned up too high
