Dual voice coil sub to 2 channel amp hookup?
I have a piece of crap 8" bass tube and a Jensen 200w 2 channel amp. My question involves hooking them up together:
The sub has 2 + and 2 - connections on it.
The amp has L and R outputs, and cannot be bridged.
Is there any way to hook them up? Can I put the L from the amp to one side of the sub, and the R to the other?
I don't want to pull my system out of my Camaro, so I found this for nearly free.

it depends on what the ohm rating is on your amp and sub. you can wire it in series or parallel which will either drop or increace the ohms your amp sees from your sub.....depents on what your amp can handle.

DO not run different signals to the coils.

You could run the two channels from the amp to the sub, without trouble, it wouldn't damage it, thats how there desigend to run the left and right channels together, Its probably 4 ohms per coil, and the jensen amps can usually run down to 2 ohms per channel, even the cheaper ones. You could run both stereo outputs from the amp to the sub, and try it out.

I tried the L and R to each voice coil, and it was quiter than just having one connected. When I bridge the amp and connect it to one voice coil, it sounds really good, but I have been told specifically that this amp is NOT bridgeable. Since it does work, I would guess that they mean it can't handle it.
I dunno, I just want a sub/amp setup for my turbo winter beater!

I bet when you tried it with the stereo approach, you had the phase wrong, you may also be able to run both channels from the amp to the sub, and run a y cable to both inputs to the amp, and run the same signal to both channels, but the phasing will be different for the woofer then.

You never run two differnt signals into the two coils of a dvc sub. When you do they kind of counter react with one another. And when you wire the l and r channels from your amp to the coils thats exactly what you are doing. either run the sub in a series and bridge the amp or run it para on one channel if your amp can not handle low loads.dvc subs are great for the many wiring options NOT so you can put the l and r channels through them.
