revamping another 89 RS and tryin to decide what to do about speakers.. have two 6x9's in the rear, one in each kicker panel, but dont know what would be the best up front. cut into the door? i was hesitant to do that, maybe the dash? i think the dash has been recovered, i thought there were origionally little ones there. suggestions

 

There are two 4x6 speakers in your dash. No real need to relocate them unless you added kicker panels to jazz up your interior and sound sytem. Check out over on the audio board for more detail. I only have 4 speakers and 2 subs and it rocks.

 

custom kickpods are the way to go, they will improve your front stage dramatically.

I have them in mine, and can't believe the difference they made. I have a 5 1/4 and a tweet. You might be able to build one that can house a 6.5, but not sure if space would become an issue.

you'll never get a good sound out of a 4x6, and with such a small speaker up front, and 6x9's in the back your soundstage would always sound like its behind you.

I did find the 4x6's on the front were 10 ohm speakers. They seem to handel a bit more low end than most aftermarket speakers.

However, I surely agree that components in the front would be the best.

I have often thought of either components in the back sail panel areas or at least some good coaxial speakers. Just make some adaptor plates for them from MDF.

 

Put some Subs in the trunk a cross over unit in for the 6x9's and the front 4x6's to remove a little bass from the 6x9's and all the bass from the 4x6's. Then the front speakers can go as loud as you want without distorting and if your still not getting enough highs you can add some pillar mount tweeters.
