DVC Subs???

Hockay!

I was talking to my buddy telling him all the goods I bought for the Trans Ams stereo and he said "why did you get DVC Subs. They are junk". I then asked "Whacha talkin about...guy at the stereo store said they perform better". He then said that a DVC sub will provide both, high end and low end sound. Well I found this to be a weird comment as the frequency range listed on these subs is nowhere in the high range. Last night I did some research on Dual voice coil subs and all I got was how they work to create more sound.

Can someone explain to me exactly what are the benefits of a DVC subwoofer over a SVC. Or better yet...is there a benefit. Guy at the Stereo store said I will get more bass out of these DVC's then SVC's.

Any help/advice on this would be greatly apreciated. Thanks

The DVC woofers can be either 4 ohm or 2 ohm. 4 using one side 2 using both sides. Now everyone knows and amp will put out more power when you drop the ohm rating. sooooo Lets say your amp is rated 100 x 1 @ 4ohms and 200 x 1 @ 2 ohms. you will have more power when running 2 ohms over 4.

so yeah...your friend is not well educated

wiring flexibility is the ONLY benefit to DVC subs (unless you're using the 2nd coil for active feedback or Q modifications, but that's beyond the scope of this). The DVC sub allows you to series wire it or parallel wire it. For the most part I consider them useless when a single coil sub is available in multiple impedances, but there is no disadvantage to having a DVC sub.

The frequency response and all physical operating parameters of a DVC sub paralleled are 100% identical to a SVC sub with the same impedance.

Kinda figured he was an asshat. Good to know I didn't waste money on these subs.

I was wondering though...how would I wire these two DVC's to my 2 channel kenwood amp.

the Amp is the KAC-969 1000watt 2 channel amp. Manual said it can do 1 and 4 ohm.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

when buying any electrical stuff be very very careful who you listen to....alot of sales guys do alot of BSing. Around here Future shop is famous for this.
When i bought my subs I had the salesguy try to tell me if i installed my subs myself the manufacters warrentee was void and that why i should buy there extended warrentee or pay for them to put it in. I laughted so hard at the guy and told him no thanks to his crappy extended warrentee and i installed them myself. I also called the store and told the manager what he said to me he wasnt to happy at all. So when ppl BS me once i dont belive anything from them anymore.

Im not saying your buddyies right (you already know hes not) but I dont understand this comment from your sales guy " He then said that a DVC sub will provide both, high end and low end sound"
?????
I think you bought the right subs but not cause of what the sales guy said.
about hooking them up 2ohm stable i dont know exactly how to do it for sure so i wont blow up your subs and keep my mouth shut....im sure someone knows here exactly how to do it.

i dont think your amps is stable at 1 ohm from what i read...i would suggest taking one of your subs back if you cant, because running one sub wired in parallel to that amp will give it full power. A lot of times less is better.

It has long been a misconception that with a DVC sub you will have deeper bass, and more of a thud. The reason was that you have 2 coils pushing the cone, so therefore more control and better power handeling.

Another closely related misconception was that you could run a different amp to each coil. Have one set at a low frequency and another at a higher frequency.

Ok I just orderd a second KAC 929 Amplifier.

Can someone post a quick diagram on how I could wire this up?

I was told it should go something like this
