modding sail panel to show off speakers?
i just got some new speakers to be mounted in the stock 6x9 location underthe sail panel.
i want to display the speakers so how would i go about this? i was thinking about making a template and then cutting the sail, but will the fabric on the pannel distort or fray if i do this?
also, i know other people have done this, so if anyone has any pics of it done, lets see it!

The panel is a rigid fiberboard, and it's already cutout for the speaker, so from the backside, just trim that larger so it matches up to the speaker(cause it doesn't now) and remove all those little cross pieces of fiberboard. But don't cut through into the fabric. Cut the fabric last, as you wrap it.
For the fabric, see how the it's wrapped around the outside edge of the panel and glued there? Do that to the new inner edge. Trim off the fabric as you're wrapping it to be sure you don't cutoff too much. The thickness of the foam backing on the fabric should give the inner edge a padded look, too, which would also hide any rough edges on the panel.
But if you mess-up the fabric, or if you ever decide to recover the panels, you can get that foam-backed headliner fabric at JoAnn Fabrics.
That should look pretty cool. Put up a pic when you're done.
