infinity perfects...sealed or ported???

planning on getting a pair of perfect 12s and running them to a jbl 1200.1. anyone know or have had experience as to which box would make them sound better/louder- sealed or ported?

generally speaking most subs would sound better in a sealed box and louder in a ported box, but that also greatly depends upon what sub you are putting in the box. As far as I know Perfects will work in a sealed or ported box. Friend of mine has a one ported and sounds decent i guess, pretty loud for one 12, doesent have as much power as that JBL will put out though..

Better: sealed
Louder: ported

A ported box will need more air space than a sealed.

hello

hi,
i have personally set up a 10" infinity kappa perfect dvq in my buddies firebird formula, i put it in a ported box that i made and i think i made the box just a little to big im gonna fix that after he fixes his car up (wrecks happen) but son of a gun this sub is so damn loud, its all low, none of that above 60 or 70 hz crap hehehe, but its getting pushed by a kicker 400.1 thats makes about 520watts from its build sheet. here is a pic right quick, but if you want them to have good respose over a wider range of frequencies, ie rock and roll, go with a sealed box, if you are a bass head rap and hip hop boy, go with ported, the infinity manuals have box size recomendations and resopnse curves to show you what to expect...at least i found some online anyway

good SQ can still be achieved in a ported box if you drop the tuning frequency down in the 25hz range. generally the higher you tune your box the more SPL and less SQ you will get. I prefer ported applications as often as possible unless the driver is specifically not suited for it. I would go with a sealed box in this case because you're throwing lots of power at the subs and in a ported box they will overexcurt under your tuning frequency. Although if you tune low, and run a good subsonic filter go ported for sure!!

thanks for responses, sealed probably seems more practical too, seeing that the dimensions in the hatch are very limited.
too bad ported boxes have to be so large.

not all the time, im not an expert on the infinity subs but i dont think they require a large box at all. You should be able to get the right volume i would think

after port displacement assuming your tuning for SQ it would be atleast around 2 cuft minimum but probably more. You could do one but thats alot of power for one perfect.

i agree

i agree go with the sealed box cause you have two and its easier to make to get right and fit in your car, less likely you will be unhappy with the way it sounds, if you are making your box you can by all means go back and make another box that is ported and try it out
