Whats Is Your Opinion On Pyramid Subs & Amps?

I found some awesome looking 12 in 1200 watt Pyramid Royal Red subs for really cheap and a 2000 watt Pyramid Royal Red amp but I've never really seen Pyramid at Sound Track, Best Buy, etc. My question is, are Pyramid electronics any good or are they really cheap because they are crappy?

4 Ohms Impedance
Kapton Voice Coil 2"
SPL @ 1W/1M 86.1dB
Frequency Response 29.6Hz
Dual 60 Oz. Heavy Magnet Structure
Mounting Depth 6.18"
600 Watt RMS Power
1200 Watt Peak Power

pyramid is the lowest of low...a 2000 watt amp from them will put out about 200-300 real watts and it will be the dirtiest most distorted power you'll ever see.

most people that own pyramid are the very very beginners who dont know better or the people who dont really care about having a good stereo and just want a little bit of low end sound.

there are many decent deals out there that you can get that will actually surprise you. but it will cost you more than pyramid

if you're looking for a cheaper line of equipment , audiobahn is hard to beat, it's not the best out there but fairly decent for what you pay IMO

I would not say it's all crap.. just because it's cheap.. a guy I know has the Crystal 1200 watt.. with two 10 inch MA audio subs.. and I must say I was pretty impressed.. it was plenty loud, and zero distortion.. face it.. amplifier technology is nothing new. Pyramid does make other amps also.. not just car audio. and look how long they have been around.. so just because it's not some big BRAND NAME. doesn't mean it's not decent equipment.. I know a lot of ya probably run your stuff loud.. pushing it to the max.. which is why so many don't like sony.. sure it's power it over rated.. but when played at a respectible level and not trying to push more then what it can properly handle, it'll not break.
Thats my two cents worth.

Sorry man but that just ant’ right. Sony’s will break any way, any thing can and will. Sony is just much better at breaking for no good reason. I see Sony amps and HUs bad right out of the box, you’ll get some of that with any manufacture. The difference is you get more of it with the cheep stuff.

But back to the point of the post.
Pyramid = cheep garbage = fact

Kia has been around for a while too. That doesn't mean it's a quality product.

It's low quality, grossly overrated junk. Period. Just because amplifier technology has been around for a while, that doesn't stop a company from using the lowest quality garbage that money can buy, then slapping it into an oversized heatsink and labeling its output at 300% to 500% of its actual capabilities.

lmao.
word of advice don't post about cheap stuff on here no one likes it or wants to use it. and its for good reasons.
I myself have used cheap stuff and yea it works, if u push too hard it sucks badly, its not great to begin w/ but the purpose of cheap stuff is its cheap and can still put out sound.
ppl may not like my oz adios but now they hit hard!!! and I got a kenwood amp on them and long as u aint pounding them to max volume max bass and loud and amp gains cranked they are awesome. way it usually is if you turned up the volume u turn down the bass and itll still hit hard and sound great.
pyramids very low end though I'd go to walmart n get some of there stuff 1st.

a friend of mine sold me his pyramid hypre pro 10s in the box for $10 i mostly wanted the box so i bought it and hooked them up to my rockford BD1500 and bumped it for about a week then just slammed them, they lasted suprising long about a minute or so constantly bottoming, then they blew the voice coils i was disappointed i wanted to se they rip the spider and surround and throw the cone into my back seat! but it was still cool, but the smell of burnt wire lingered through my car for about a week.. it made me sick, al in all, imo pyramid is just but fun to break!

My rule of thumb with car audio is: Stay away from anything JC Whitney carries... this includes:

Coustic (Boston Acoustic)
Pyramid
Kenford (Kenwood)
SparkoMatic
Audiovox
Jensen
MB Acoustics (MB Quart)
Legacy
Pyle

They recently started selling JVC and Bazooka... but that might mean that the brands have gone downhill

Also any brands that either look like or the name sounds like a decent brand. (see above parenthesis)

Hey they still make SparkOMatic? Ha! I bought my dad an am/fm/cassette player for his '76 Ford (twin-shaft style radio, with "tone" on the volume ****) when I was 12 or so... took me a while to come up with that $25!

(And I actually put the damn thing into my Firebird when I first got it... hey, there was no radio in the car! It still worked though!)

I don't know if they still make Sparkomatic (I know it was absorbed by Audiovox in the 90's) but this is in my van!:

Well Ill say it time and time again. I cant be more pleased with my sony amp/subs. Ive had them for over a year. Played them at a reasonable volume no problems what so ever. I however would not buy pyramid.

This thread like so many others comes down to all opinions lots and lots don't like cheap stuff and some do and as stated some is good jvc good mb's good and so is kenwood I have them or have had them w/o any problems and some is nice some is junk. I've seen mtx a name I thought was good completely suck before, I've also seen what some say junky jensen amps pushing good subs like jl's and they hit awesomely hard. I had a friend had 2 300 watt jensens pushing to w6's blew the back glass out of his tempo, he had em mounted in the trunk. It all comes down to what you want to try and can afford. solo's are good as well I think all components are good to a certain point or level. I do however dislike extreme sound junk had a cd player play 2 times and quit. Most ppl's opinions esp on sonys come from this fact they or someone they knew has one or had one and had problems and talked ill of it and thought bad of there whole line of stuff some may be true but then again some may not be. I personally have seen a difference in the same stuff vary from state to state. I had 2 urban 12's in an s10 theese are same as road gear/rampage/ audiovox stuff had a la sound malibu 120 amp pushing em they was aight not hardly any thump though or strong hitting just decent sound and music. More of a mid then anything I guess, I then went out of state and seen a guy had 2 urbans exact same as mine in his car and they hit hard!!!! I got to talking to the guy let him hear the ones I had took his out put em in my boxes in the s10 w/ my amp and they completely blew mine away there as well they really hit. but the ones you get here blew. they really sucked.
Myself I like the older amps anyways the older amps seem to be the best true rated and close to the exact rating and sound the best.

if you're looking for quality on a budget, ebay is one of the greatest places to look. i bought an old mtx blue thunder pro amp for around $75. great amp (sold for $300+ when new) and the only thing compromised was the price. even better, there's a seller on ebay that appears to be mitek (mtx, xtant, etc head company) selling tons of previous models of amps, subs, speakers, etc for cheap prices. seeing as xtant amps tend to sell for quite a few bucks at retail shops, many of these things are going for under $200 new in box. tons of wiring for cheap too. picked up 10 pairs of interconnects for $15/shipped. all still in original packaging. check out their ebay shop here
