Deck advice: Alpine 9821 vs. Pioneer 2600
Hello,
Here is a random little post about a search for a deck that I've been on for awhile now.
I live up in Canada, and I've been looking for an entry-level deck for about $200 Canadian or less.
Here are my choices:
1)Pioneer 1600 -$149
2)Pioneer 2600 -$185
3)Alpine 9821-$185
5)Kenwood, Sony, JVC, low-end Clarion decks all for $139-$149
I have yet to hear one single bad comment about Alpine decks from anybody I've talked to on the boards, salespeople, friends, anybody.
This deck is for my father's '93 Suburban, he doesn't need ANY features, just a CD player.
HERE'S THE KICKER: Obviously, I bought the Alpine 9821. Brought it home, found out he has some older Alpine 7800-ish deck in a different vehicle, and CD's won't eject normally from that deck. Now he's swore off Alpine, and basically wants to return the deck without even listening to anything I tell him.
Will the Pioneer 2600 even be comparable in terms of quality and sound if I exchange it for the Alpine? Even the sales guy said to me that if the Pioneer 4600 was the same price as the Alpine, then he would think about buying it, but comparing the 2600 to the Alpine was "not even worth considering".
Seems I happen to know the only person who doesn't like Alpine head units
, other than the guys that spend $500+ just on a deck.

I have always been a fan of Alpines, I have only heard mine skip once. Plus I love the controls, they are so simple, once you learn them. Plus I love the way they look.
I just got another 1 because I wanted a MP3 deck, so I got the 7894. I love it.
Pioneer is the only other brand I would ever buy.
So you are good with either one you pick.

Well Id go with the alpine. I love mine. My friends got a clarion pro audio head unit cost him 300 I think but he got it off online so I know it was more expensive in store. That thing is sweet.
