JL 13W7 Install?

I tried doing a search but I couldn't get any results, so...

I have a 13W7 that I had from a previous car, and I was wondering if anyone has attempted to install one in a Camaro? I am just wondering if it was possible with the amount of space required?

I know there are acouple guys running over at www.fbodyaudio.com that are running 12" W7s in hatchs of the 4th gens. Most of them are in the spare tire area.

It might be possible to put a 13.5 in the hatch well. I'm not to worried over the 10.5" mounting depth... but then you figure 12 for the overall depth. The hardest part would be to get enough room above the sub... so the surround doesn't xmax and hit off the plastic.

If you got to mount right and have enough room for xmax then I'm pretty sure you'd have plenty of box room left to go sealed since it only 1.875 cubes... maybe enough if you go ported 2.375 cubes. Depending on how you build the box height for the sub clearance 2 cubes+ should be fairly easy in the well. I guess you could always take the sub out there and try sticking it vertically in the well or angle it towards the hatch glass to see if the magnet and stuff clear with 3 inches or so above the sub.... just don't drop it they weigh around 50 lbs... course you probably already know that.

i've got a 10w7 in the hatch of my car and just looking at it if you build the box the way mine is except with the bottom a total box coving the entire floor you should have more than enough air space if you don't port it...if you do you are insane lol!

Even if you were close on the space need'd you could always think about doing a fiberglass box to pull out more area.

Should I use 1" MDF, or do you think I could get by with 3/4?

I imagine 3/4" would be plenty. I made a complete 6.0 cubic foot ported box out of 3/4" MDF for a 15" L7 and it was plenty strong. You could use 1" but you'll get a little more weight in there also. Main thing is just to check around for good prices. Local lumber yard wanted 105 bucks for a 4x8 sheet of 3/4" MDF. I end'd up having to drive about an hour but I bought 2 4x8 sheets at 23 or 24 bucks each from Lowe's.
