headunit shorting out
i just recently installed a alpine cda 9815 in my car and it starts to short out at high levels usually vol 20+ then the lights start to dim and BOOM blank.i know its not the deck because ive gone back and replaced it. all my grounds are clean and proper, i havn't checked the lines but im sure thats not the problem beacuse my old panasonic worked with them and no wiring has changed. some guy it could have been the speakers but im not sure on what he means by that because with my panasonic deck the system was fine and worked well. if anyone has anything or knows anything that could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Is the 9815 one of their new 60 watt decks that requires a 10 AWG power feed?

been there done that ive re ground everything. but i just realized what could be wrong. i have a 150a fuse which i hooked everything through (stereo amps and alarm). i took off the headunit and alarm wires and connected them directly to the battery so we will see if that works so far so good but it worked the last time for a day then started to short out again.

Perhaps its overheating. Does it conk out after some time playing or right away?
right away at high volumes

it sounds like your head unit has that gay cut out feature on it when u turn the music up to loud it cuts out so you do not damage or blow your speakers. my sister had that on one of her head units and she hated it she took it back and got a diff one.

If you don't try to overdrive the head unit in the first place, that feature won't activate.

problem solved.....i think
well its been working for the last 36 hrs and no probs
. .................................. ___amps
................................... /
{battery}---------[150a] ------alarm
.................................... \____headunit
disregard the periods the spaces wouldn't stay when i tried to post it with spaces.
was my old way of wiring it.
the lead from the battery to the 150a fuse is maybe 6 inches so initially when i first hooked it up though no prob. and also before with my panasonic i did not have to run a lead directly from the battery to the headunit so it didn't need the extra bit of power.
so what was happening in the hard bass hits it was drawing power from the headunit and alarm. therefore causing it to shut off. so what i have now is:
............. ____headunit
............. /
{battery}------[150a]----amps
............. \___alarm
all separate connections from the battery. and so far so good it works if it cuts out anytime soon i know that it wasn't the correct solution and ill have to try out something else either with running speakers off the amp instead of the head unit. but hopefully it doesn't come down to that.

regardless of what side of the 150 amp fuse you draw your power from, you should have another fuse for the radio right after the connection point.
For example... I have a 100 amp breaker in line on my main power wire. From the fused side of the breaker, I draw the power for my head unit, which is then fused with a 15 amp fuse. The 150 amp fuse is not going to offer any protection for the wire going to the head unit. It'll melt and destroy things with way less than 150 amps.

That offers absolutely no protection for the wire in front of it.

{headunit built in fuse like 5amps}---wire------20afuse-----battery thats how it is
wire is wire and if you use loam and a gromet you should be alright because either way if it breaks it breaks and shorts something out wether if it has a fuse up front or not. unless you have a 5a fuse protecting that wire which is really not that necessary.
