Foam Batting???

I was wondering. Why are people putting foam batting in their enclosures. What exactly does it do? I never did this to mine...is this something I should consider?

Makes the sub think the box is bigger then it is by slowing down the wave.

makes deeper bass with smaller box... and bigger boxes are ALWAYS better in realistic applications

I used dacron i think its called cant remeber though. Its like polyester fiber basicly made the bass sound cleaner when i put it in my sub box.

When using a sealed enclosure, stuffing the enclosure with poly fill can "fool" the sub into thinking that it's in an enclosure of up to 10% larger size.

In ported applications, you don't want to block the path between the back of the sub and the port, so most people just staple acoustic foam to the walls of the enclosure. This has very little effect at low frequencies, although it does help the sub think it's in an ever so slightly larger enclosure. Where the padding comes into play is generally to damp higher frequency resonances and standing waves, which is a benefit to your midrange performance in a full range speaker.
