Whats with the 4 by 6 inchers???????

ok guys i have infinity reference 4 by 6 plates in the dash. when i bought them i noticed the right side distorted on bass, so i took them back and i got these things that you attach to the positive signal that reduces the bass, so it works for about three weeks , then today it starts again, does any 1 know of a reason it could do this besides being blown , out. Oh and what 4 by 6 do you guys have and do they respond well to bass (keep in mind i dont put my music way loud, just enough to hear on the freeway with windows down)

If you can find a 4x6 that responds well to bass, well you're a better man than I. I have Infinity Kappa 4x6 plates up front. They don't respond to bass much at all, but fortunately have not distorted without any kind of EQ. I tested each one during installation to hear when they started to distort as I turned up the headunit. Once I found the breaking point, I swore never to go above it, and I still never have.

Why the bass-blockers stopped working after three weeks, I can't be sure. I'm willing to bet that the speaker itself must be blown already, and the bass blockers were probably just hiding it for about three weeks until it got worse. I'm not sure at all what the lifespan of an inline bass blocker should be, though.

In a best case scenario, you should be running the speakers through a high-pass filter. If you can find a headunit that has it built-in, all the better, but you will likely want to run the speakers off of a seperate amp with an adjustable high-pass filter.

I've have no problems with my Pioneer 4x6's they receive a full range.. never had a distortion like you mention.. Of course if I turn up the base and volume they will thump hard and distort, but only because they are moving more then they where designed for.

If you can't find a good high pass filter.. do some research on the crossover point you want. and install a capacitor of the correct value. and that will filter out the bass.

the way in which the 4x6's are mounted under the dash doesn't make for very nice output. the rear wave of the midrange needs to be isolated from the front wave to have any sort of chance at decent sound.

this is NOT the case underneath. I've done small enclosures for them in the past and it wakes up a plate system big time. Have also done a handful of 4" component sets for those not willing to go into the doors or kicks.

try and build small enclosures for the drivers....keeping the rear wave away from the front. you'll find they wake up significantly. if ur distortion doesn't go away, you likely have a toasty driver.
