It should be fairly easy with a thirdgen dash kit.

Keep the original screws from your factory radio mounts.

Use a hack saw blade to carefully cut the extra crap out of the DIN sized opening (the stupid pieces with the holes for dial radios). I use my dremel, but I'm assuming you don't have one of these based on your question. A hack saw blade is perfect for a beginner, just wrap an end with electrical tape or buy a handle.

After you cut these out and break off anything else that does not belong (such as stuff that will get in the way of the stereo or mounting area), smooth the edges with a rough file or a knife.

If you use the knife, use beater knife, not a nice one. scrape the edge, do not carve. Do this outside of the car, it will make a mess.

Disconnect the wire from the HU, slide the basket off of the chassis. This may require releasing the hold tabs on each side, very easy to do while it's open. Take note of how the hold tabs work in case you ever need to pull it back out. Pioneers and other brands come with thier own type of 'keys' to sneak through and release the holding tabs for removal.

Fit the basket in with the lip out. bend a tab or two and make sure the HU fits smoothly without needing too much force, no need to lock it in at this time. Bend the rest of the tabs with a tool, like a flathead screwdriver, tightly agaist the back side of the mounting kit. The basket should be snug in all directions, some are better than others, just do the best you can with it.

use the original factory radio screws, mount the plastic in the opening. Most of these kits will only fit one way, the screws won't line up otherwise. Do a trail fit, attach it with one screw and put the interior trim over it, does it look ok? Hopefully so, put the other screws in.

NOTE: Sometimes it's easier to lock in the HU, connect the wiring and then mount the kit all in one piece. The reason being, some cars have little room for the wires and it's hard to tell those wires what to do when you have less access.

For the sake of sanity, please use a factory wire harness too.

Be sure all is functional before you button it up. Antenna, polarity, remote, CD changer control....check, check?
