My Stereo broke...
All of a sudden, my volume **** stopped working on my stereo. Also, the remote just stopped working. Its a JVC KDLX-300. How much is it usually to get a stereo fixed? I really like this unit, and would rather not get a new one, but what units would you recommend. I am most interested in the ability to change tenor, bass, woofer, fade, and balance individually, not through something like that crappy sony equalizer.

it usually isnt worth it to get a head unit fixed. If it has a removable face plate, you may be able to get a new one from jvc, saying that the old face plate was stolen, and it shouldnt cost you much. If you are looking for a new headunit though, I highly recommend The excelon series from kenwood.

the volume **** works for like 5 minutes after i turn the car on...then just slowly deteriorate to where I can't get any response from it. This is really annoying.

for my sub, not for my other speakers.
Playing with it a bit more, I find that I can use my remote for a little while if I don't touch the volume control **** first, but eventually I lose the ability to use the remote as well. It almost seems like its some sort of heat problem.
Has anybody heard about JVC having recurring problems or anything? I'd really like to just get an updated model of my current reciever because I like the ability to choose the bass, tenor, and woofer settings independently instead of on some preset "sound curve"

When I read your first post I thought "I know this one", but not so much right now.
The black face JVCs do have problems with the ribbon cables going out and giving you intermittent key operation. But when that happens it's hit or miss, this sounds thermal. I would look for bad connections around the microprocessor or the micro-p itself. Ether way it's probably not worth fixing. That's unfortunately not one of there better unit. Not seeing it and having to take an half blind stab at price of repair at around $150.00 min. (this is at best a guess).
