Radio wiring questions

I pulled a four year old Alpine from my Iroc-Z and installed a cheap-azz Sanyo "Stealth" deck. What a mistake. The Sanyo distorts with funky feedback through the speakers before you can get it loud. So the Alpine is going back in.

First question:
Orange wire from Alpine deck labeled Illm

Wire harness from Iroc-Z has two connectors. One is a two pin connector with a yellow wire and an Orange wire. The orange wire is labeled Illumination. The 12 pin connector also has an orange wire that is labeled Dimmer. Should I use one of those or not ? Neither one was connected before and the Alpine worked fine.

Second question:
Are the OEM speakers 8ohm or 4ohm ? I'm thinking they are 4ohm and the Sanyo deck is for 8ohm speakers. The Alpine works with either one. The Alpine sounds great with the OEM speakers but it is very sensitive to lightly scratched CDs.

the Illumination wire is nothing more than an input that dims the display when you turn your lights on. some vehicles provide a +12V output to this, some a ground output. Either way, tape it back and forget it

99% of OEM speakers (unless they are the upgraded Bose speakers - thats the 1%) are 4 ohms. I have never seen a 12-volt piece of electronics that wasn't meant for 4 ohms. You just got urself a crappy deck bud...btw, if the deck only wanted to see 8 ohms and you put 4 ohms on it (effectively double the load), you'd have already lost that deck....

The deck was in a rustang that my son bought. It wouldn't play an audio CD more than 10 seconds. I bought him a nice Pioneer deck and pulled the Sanyo. The Sanyo was less than a year old. Sanyo sent me a replacement deck. I'll call them tomorrow and tell them that it is junk.
