ok im purchasing a 12" sub and amp combo, now i need a head unit, im looking at alpine and pioneer, but people recomend more expensive ones with functions i do not need and do not really want, which i believe is jacking up the price...
so i want to know whats a good quality head unit that plays store bought cds, as well as burned cds (not mp3 cds) is all i need, well of course, radio functionality! rca outputs is a good idea too, of course! again looking for SQ, trying not to break $200 on HU cuz my sub/amp combo from ED is only $250 (just getting started, later on, will upgrade, maybe... just here for some sq and a little boom), thanks!

I'm a fan of all pioneer home/car audio products. I have the DEH-P4600MP head unit in my trans am and like it a lot, but since you don't need mp3 playback, the DEH-P3600 would be a good choice. My brother has the 3600 and hasn't had any complaints. It's around $150 at best buy and a lot cheaper on ebay, if you prefer that. Be prepared to spend hours installing it though if you currently have the factory head unit. I can't really recommend anything else, but pioneer is a good choice when quality at a cheap price is the main deciding factor.

well alpine is deffinitly a good brand. my mp3/4vtriple preouts sound awesome on my Phoenix gold TX10s with a 600.1. I paid like around 300 for the head unit but that was at Circuit city... You could prolly get it on ebay for around 200.00+shipping...Also look into Clarion Pro Audio they have some really good head units too. Eclipse is supposed to be a good brand but personally Ive never worked with one...
