Gas Tank Location
I am looking to mount my amp on the rear deck of my 1984 Camaro, but I know the gas tank is right under there. I want to build an amplifier rack, the exact lenght and width of the deck itself, and drill that in on the far right and left sides of the rear deck, and then drill my amp into that. The way I see it is the gas tank does not take up the entire length of the deck, so I would be safe by drilling on the far ends?
Can anyone agree/disagree with this?

its not a good idea to drill into the hump area not only because of where the tank is but also where it could be in teh event of an accident. try mounting the rack to the seats or another area using brackets. you could mount it to the seatbeal bolts if you wanted

well i figure i will drill a piolet hole first, then shave down the self-tapping screw so it is flat, this way it wont puncture. i figure if i get in an accident that bad im not going to repair it anyway, and ill take my chance with it blowing up.

We used to cut a board to fit the 'hump' and slide it under the carpet. Then screw the amp to that.
If wanting an amp rack, do the same, but attach the amp rack to through the carpet to the board. It really shouldn't go anywhere.
Never had any problems ....
If you feel you won't be driving civilized, then liquid nails the board to the metal first

if you want to make an amp rack use velcro to stick it down and then mount the amp to it
