Performance Sound Amp Button?

1985 T/A 5.0 4BBL LG4. My Car has the performance sound option. Behind my sail panels I have what look like custom boxes, with a 4x6 and what looks like a 4.5 or 5.25 woofer. Is this the stock setup for the performance sound option? Also there is a Switch on the dash panel with a slider. Stock Amp Turn on and Gain(where is the stock amp?) With the stock deck it seems to work. With my aftermarket deck I'm not getting anything. Even though I spent the money on one of those wiring harness adapters. Stereo will play but the amp button does not seem to work. What Gives? I love this site!

ok , that setup is stock , i had it in my 85 trans am , the amp is lockated above where a passenger would sit in the front seat . their is an access panel and then its under there . It shouldnt work because the stock stuff is like 8 ohms and the aftermarkets stuff is differnt . they had to run new wires when i had an aftermarket cd player put it .

18inchboyds, the amp wouldn't happen to be a small black box bolted onto the panel behind the storage pouch on the passenger side, would it? I had to remove most of the interior panels to fix a problem I was having with the headlight switch, and I couldn't seem to identify what that thing was.

I don't have the performance sound package, though.

THe hood cost around 600 shipped , this was back in 03 so it might be cheaper now .

That's an aftermarket amp in that pic--not factory at all.

that would be cool if there was enough room to mount a real amp in there... but I've never seen a good amp that small.

Does any one have a wiring diagram for the factory amp.
My 89 Firebird does have one but I want to install one.
what are inputs on the factory amp? Is it just the channel inputs coming from the stereo?

Thanks,

what kind of power would you see with an amp like that? and would the headunit of a car with an amp have no internal amp?
