i just bought the new viper security system. its great.
it cost me $400 + taxes though.
but it has every damn imaginable thing such as:
LED pager alarm
remote start
keyless entry
loud *** siren
etc....
its well worth the money if you want to protect somethign valuable or something like a stereo system that has a crap load of money put into it!

Yup. I also have a viper system. Darn thing even has one of those things that will detect if you stick your arm in through the window when it's down. Cool as heck. But it also detects motion under the car, so the cats set it off sometimes. And I always have to check.

yeah install was included in price. i got it discounted too though. an alarm like i have your lookin at around $500.
if you wanted to, you could get a basic base model alarm for $150. then add on proximity and perimiter for $100 each and have a decent alarm.
all up to you really. just depends on what you want to spend.
a benefit though of having an alarm. you get a discount on insureance rates for having an "anti-theft system" installed in your car

I have a CompuStar two-way paging security system on my Lumina. It practically makes the car a fortress on wheels. I like it alot! Its also nice to be able to start the car from 1/4 mile away.

yes. you can get a remote start and keyless entry and all that good stuff on an alarm off of ebay for like $100. no joke
BUT, unless you know how to install all of that yourself, if you take it somewhere its going to cost you another $300 to have someone else install it for you
