Yeah, if you search around, you will find other threads with people saying you wont shatter your glass.

It's physically impossible. That's the strongest piece of glass in your car, and even the weakest piece of glass (side windows) are substantially stronger than the tin panels and rubber gaskets that will give out first.

Ditto. The hatch glass is so thick and it has a round'd shape. Not to mention I would be willing to bet the plastic housing for the pull down would be the weak link (it's plastic housing with 3 screws that hold the hatch firmly in place). After all people break them by slamming them hard.

I once had a local audio shop tell me they had a pair of 15s break a hatch off an f-body. My guess is the plastic housing was abused or they slammed it hard installing the setup. Then when it vibrated the hatch glass that was enough for the plastic housing to finish cracking and fall apart.

They continued to tell me my 18s with 1200 rms to each would probably blow the hatch and hinges completely off the car.

Going back to the rubber gaskets I did blow the the hatch seal one apart at the weak point right at the center where the hatch latch goes into the plastic trim.

The side windows let most of your pressure out anyways.

2 18"s? wow... I used to think 2 15"s were overkill... what did the box look like?

You've seen the post before. It's the 2 18"s with ~ 3.4 cubic feet of air each sealed in the well taking up the entire space (including some deleted trim) all fiberglass.
