computer to headunit question
Hey guys, im planning on ripping apart an older computer of mine and fabricating it into my camaro. The sound card running in my computer is a little outdated, but it does have a line out from the motherboard. I was thinking of running the line out to the aux connection on my headunit to play mp3s from the computer. Does anyone know how the quality sounds compared to a regular cd? The reason i ask this is because i dont have any amplifiers running to my speakers, just to my sub, so hooking my computer up to an amplifier would be out of the question. Im thinking if worse comes to worst i will just pick up a new sound card to beef up the signal. Any input would be appreciated, thanks guys.

If the computer still doesn't work right with the old card and it has USB I would look into the MP3+ Soundblaster USB cards. Simple USB hookup and you get RCA outs.
I bought an old 433 mhz celeron, ram, powersupply, board... etc off ebay awhile back that I did a test run with the hdd out of my primary pc. I just haven't got around to finishing up my case I was making. I planned on using the MP3+ card hooked up to my line in RCAs. It's around 40 bucks at Walmart.

My experience is that the sound quality is okay as long as you get rid of all the noise from the alternator and power invertor. Make sure everything is grounded well. Also, it has a tendancy to be kinda quiet, so you can either turn up the volume on the computer or turn it up on the head unit. I really enjoyed my in-car computer MP3 player. Around 4 gigs of MP3s, and I drove around the entire country and barely heard the same song twice!
