question about a system
I'm 16 years old and I have a 1990 Camaro RS that I got for Christmas. The stereo in it is a cassette and original and the 2 speakers in the dash are blown and the drivers side speaker in the rear is also blown. I only have the rear passenger side speaker that works. My question is this: I don't really know anything about sound systems but I want to get a cd player and good speakers for my car, any suggestions? Also, should I buy a system as a package type deal or buy the cd player and all the speakers and such seperately? thanks for the help.

Pretty much all you need to know is stay away from junk brands like sony, and stick with reputable brands like Pioneer, Alpine, Kenwood, JBL, Panasonic, etc. As far as what to get, it all depends on your budget. Alpines and MB Quart are expensive, but they are very good quality. Infinity Kappas and Kenwood eXcelon speakers are really good from what I've heard, panasonic and pioneer have good cheap HU's (make sure it has sub pre-outs incase later on you want to go with subs, and those with pre-outs are typically better quality) But like I said, it all depends on your budget.

How can you even mention you used to steal it?? Argh, theives really tick me off!!
You wanna go cheap? Check out mmxpress.com or ikesound.com or ebay.com --- stick with pioneer, jl, rockford, eclipse, kenwood, ect. If you go on ebay... there's gonna be a lot of cheapies that look like they offer a lot of power, but in reality, they're crappy, and over rated... stay away!!
ONLY get speakers from one of those sites... As far as a head unit goes, purchase one in the store -- that way you get a warranty! You can get an mp3 kenwood headunit for $110... basemodel of course, but if you're not looking for anything special, it will do the trick.
Keep in mind, you will also need: wiring harness ($15) and mounting kit ($15-20). Installation wise, you're looking at about $45 headunit and $35 for each pair of speakers. Sometimes you can find a deal in the stores where if you buy a headunit, you get a free install. Or buy a headunit and get a free pair of speakers. Keep a look out for these, they can save you some money. YOu might be able to still find some of last-year's models on clearance at car audio shops as well.
You'll be listening to it, so make sure you go around and listen to different speakers. Find the one YOU think so good...
