I have an '89 RS with the stock tape player. I want a CD player, but I'd like to keep a factory look. Would a CD player from a later 4th gen camaro, or a cavalier, blazer, etc. fit in my car? Is the plug in in the back similar or the same, and would my factory speakers be able to handle it?

Try doing a search. It's been discussed a bunch of times, and one member here sucessfully put a 4th gen cd player into his car. The wiring issue should be straight forward (if you're familiar with wiring at all). I do recall that he had to do a little work with mounting brackets, but I don't think it was anything complicated or overly difficult.

Your stock speakers will handle it just fine, although with the new radio (assuming you use a late-4th gen or late truck radio) is good enough that upgrading your speakers will provide quite noticable benefits.

 

I put a 4th gen monsoon cd player in my 87 and there way no major modifications to do. I did however have to swap my old harness for a new 21 pin harness but it wasn't bad.

 

I was also thinking about doing a 4th gen cd player swap. Does the unit just slide right into where the stock one goes? Do they have the same dimensions? I have little to no knowledge about car audio so as much info i can get would be great.
