amplifier upgrade

woooooooo .. okay so i used to have a hifonics brutus 1000d hooked up to my 2 jl audio w3v2 subs. i went out today to my friends local car audio store and we were messin around with different amps and different subs in my car to try to gain db.

first off we stuck with my jl audio w3v2 subs and hifonics amp and metered it again to test out our db gain or loss with the new stuff we did. it metered at 138.8 ... so we took out the hifonics amp and threw in a jl audio 500/1 amp. metered it again and it ran at a 140.3 peak. which is a good gain..

next we took out my w3v2's and wanted to test out the new w1v2's with the jl audio 500/1 amp.. put all that in, hooked it up, metered it and it came out 136.4..

we obviously put my w3v2 subs back in and then i wanted to try out the new memphis 1100d amplifier. so we hooked that beast up and metered it. and BAM, what do u know, it metered at 142.4 .. i was like holy ****. so, i bought the amp, and ended up with a 3.5 db gain which is a HUGE db gain.

The Memphis is a far better amp than the Hifonics

i was at sound advice screwing around with the stuff they had...i compared the w6v2 and w3 v2, i was suprised to hear that the w3 was not unlike the w6 by much.... the setup was in an audioroom with ported enclosures on the wall, a 1000/1 amp and one of the pioneer touchscreen dvd H/u. after hearing the w3s i cant wait to pick up a set for me

w6 should have at least a 3b gain over the w3's would.

a wall cant really test out the subs if your going for SPL. a lot of it depends on the car. also other very important details would be the box and how it was built to fit the inside of say our hatchback firebirds/cameros.

like say, my box right now actually kinda sucks. if i rebuilt the box. gave it maybe 2 inches more airspace, didnt have a divider, ported it about 8 inches long down the center of the two subs. i would gain at minimum 1db from what i have now.

well i ono if it was ohms... wiring.. box or what ever... all i care about is how it sounds and if i can afford it... in which i can afford the w3 and not the w6
