subs instead of rear seats??? anyone?? pics???
i did away with my rear seats cuz cant nobody fit back there anyway..... i wanna design a spkr box to hold 2 or subs instead.. has anyone done this yet or have pictures? my main concern is sound quality, dont know if i want them rear-facing or front ... i want good solid bass without the cancellation of the signal from the sound going bk and hittin the window and coming bk sounding like sh&&%... thanks all.... (dont 4get pics if u got any....)

It's been asked a hundred times. There's no cancellation "from the subs hittin the window". In fact, it's quite the opposite. Those of us that have experimented with sub placement have confirmed that you will have a loss of SPL by placing subs in the center of the car instead of at the rear. I got knee deep into the physics behind it in a post I made earlier in the week or maybe late last week.

The direction they are facing doesn't matter, but their distance from the front and/or rear of the car does.

Our cars have pretty big back seats when you compare to other 2-doors...
our seats are more spacious than 4thgens, eclipses, as well as mustangs...
I fit 4 6ft+ tall guys in my car all the time no problem...
it's always nice to have the seats just in case... plus I usually put stuff there...

replied to something similar in another thread. I am having a full Fiberglass interior which includes removal of the rear seats and a custom box being made for 4 MTX 8500 subs with the amps and such. Should have pics up by august for it. i will be reinforcing the bottom of it as it will be shaped somewhat similar to a seat. but not really. but it is nice to have a little room back there to set something down if absoutely need be. But with a cage in the car, the bar behind the front seats makes it pretty much impossibe for anyone to climb in the back seat. not to mention i am 6'2 and I have to have the seat all the way back which will ussually leave about 3" of room in between the back of the front seat and the start of the rear.

hrm, I'm 6ft tall and when I get friends in I can still scoot the seat all the way forward to make room... it's not like you have to do it all the time...

you must be more body than legs than lol. If i try to scoot the seat forward i end up hitting my knees on the underdash of the car. which makes shiftring a bit of a pain in the neck, not to mention the knees. then if you are driving long distances ( like i often do in my car. it can cause unpleasant leg cramps.
Wheen you really start thinking about it. just look at the corvettes. they had back seats at one time long time ago. Now you do not find a single car with one ( not that i have seen anyhow. all of them are 2 seaters around here) Only reason the camaro had a back seat was the illusion of a "family" sports car, so it could be sold to a larger audience. The usefulness of the rear seat however is pretty speculatory, as most often it sits unused because either people do not have enough room back there for anyone to sit comfortablely, or no one wants to sit back there anyway due to the smallish confines.

I use it several times a week... because if more than two people NEED to come with me somewhere.. then they CAN
while it's really not very comfortable (for some).. other's it's just fine, as long as the front passenger gives you enough room for your feet to scoot under the bottom of the front seat.
plus most people just fall asleep on long trips anyhow.
I'd still rather have those seats anyways, because I utilize that space for cargo all the time... seeing how I don't have a well anymore.

Anything that anybody owns is some sort of aftermarket hack.
From time to time, GM may have built a one-off prototype 4 seater, but nothing that reached production, and nothing that certainly even went beyond the show car prototype stage.

MY FOUR DOOR CORVETTE!
Actually 5 "Americas" and one prototype (1979) were made in 1980. This is the only production one left (the others being destroyed in various car accidents). They were designed by California Custom Coach in Pasedena, Ca., and there were plans to make 40 production vehicles per year for Chevy at a cost of $35,000 each back then. Due to the economics of the time (interest rates were at $18% and the energy crisis-and a standard 2 seater vette sold for only 12K) they were unaffordable and only 5 were made; custom designed for each prospective buyer. This particular car was originally owned by Singer DOROTHY MCGUIRE of the McGuire Sisters and was purchased along with a red one, which has since been destroyed.
The prototype first appeared on the cover of Corvette Fever Jan 1979, then on the cover of Road & Track Feb. 1979, in which the reviewers made mention of how well the car was built, designed and how it drove smoother than a standard corvette. 30 inches were added to the wheelbase; 2 actual cars were cut in half and brought back together with 4 full size seats and leg room to accommodate four. The hatchback is also a prototype as they were not available until 1982. My car was featured in Corvette Fever Magazine March 2001 with a 2 page spread. Click on the first link below under favorite links to see article.
This actual car was used as a model for Monogram and was produced as a plastic model kit in 1980. My car has less than 18,000 actual miles and really is a head turner! I will fully restore it over the next year. It truly is a PRACTICAL FAMILY SPORTSCAR!!!

There were no 4 door 'vettes! Come on, have we lost touch with reality here? Any ones you see are homemade conversions, regardless of the story they tell. I'd love the see the build sheet on it. I can post pics of RX7's with 350s in them, or school busses that do wheelies, but it doesn't mean they are stock!
