Burned out antenna!

As seems typical...to me, at least, my factory antenna died in the upright position. Yes, it is factory power telescope. Right now, the mount is undone, the fender bezel unscrewed and the mast cut and dropped down (what's left), yet the mech is still encased within the fender wall. What's needed to get this thing out?
Do I need an exact replacement to screw back into the cosmetic bezel? I'm looking at used vs. new, via junk yard, as I did on my Deville....WHICH BTW, is a ton easier compared to the F car, same as for the thermistat I also had to deal with....ugh
