AC Delco CD player ERR
My CD player is out of a 96 Impala, its a theftlock, but its unlocked. Not having any problems with the radio, just the cd. I'm in the process of putting my firebird back together during a restoration, and put the cd player in, hooked it up, and left it on the floor for a couple weeks. Well my problem is, when I put a cd in it will either play it or come up with "ERR", which is error. This does it to new cd's too. Most the time it plays, but it seems like i'm getting err more often now. Should I stick a lens cleaner disc in and try? Will this problem go away once its mounted in the pod? Could this be happening when the battery gets low? Any help will be appreciated. I did a search on it, and couldn't find any answers, as there was only one other post related to this!
Thanks Jim

I recommend NOT using a lens cleaning disc. The wipers on them can damage the lenses suspension, and or damage the lens. The best way is to clean it using a Q-tip and alcohol (isopropyl can leave a residue).

So pretty much pull the radio cover off, look for the lens and hit it with a q-tip and alcohol? I know a q-tip won't fit in the cd slot! Is that how you did it?

First, disclaimer. You CAN royally F' you're stuff up F'n around in side if you don't know what you're doing! No BS. Don't blame me.
Usually you take the top off.
Start with a Q-tip and some denatured alcohol (Note denatured, NOT isopropyl). Just wet the Q-tip, flick it once or twice. You just want it damp. Then GENTLY rub the Q-tip in a circular motion starting at the inside of the lens and going to the outside of the lens. You'll notice that the lens will move freely. This is because the lens is suspended by vary fine wires. DON'T force anything, if you bend these wires you're done, and so is the unit.
Keep in mind this my not fix it. But it's the first step in finding the problem. Unless you want to drop $3,000.00+ on test equipment to fix this one unit, then sent it to me.
