Damn you JeffW!!!!
All those threads on your real flames got me to dig out my airbrush, and get to work!!!!
Seriously, this may not be thirdgen related but it is audio related, and may inspire someone.
Let me preface this by letting you know we did not build the setup, nor put it together, but a good customer of ours that has a nice H2 that he decked out asked us to fix his audio gear.
The kid that built everything for him has a general knowledge of installation, but his execution was poor.
His boxes were not symetrical or even very nice, but it was a start...I only wish i had taken some shots of it as the work progressed.
The boxes and amp rack were mdf structure, then he tried to slick them with fiberglass...It was all lumpy and uneven. He knew they weren't very nice and tried to cover them up with truck bedliner in a can. He then sprayed the truck's interior trim color on them. It looked OK but not to the caliber of what our customer wanted, so he broght them in and asked me what we could do.
My friend and I got to work...We ground everything up and he slicked it all with body filler. The only problem was the spray in bedliner. I t would not strip or even sand. My buddy, Who is incedentally my lead technician, straightened everything out and sanded as straight as possible with what we had. I took over by spraying everything with Feather Fill II...Awesome ****...sprayable polyester filler.
Blocked everything straight and repeated. Final prime was our Standox brand primer...Blocked, wetsanded sealed and laid out in glorious black cleared to a miorror finish, but wait...still not done. We wetsanded and wheeled the box and thought while nice, it was a bit plain. As I mentioned before Jeff has got my creative juices flowing and I broke out the airbrush. I downloaded a picture of the H2 emblem from a site I found, wetsanded the entire amp rack again with 1500, and laid everything out by hand. I wouldn't be content unless i made it look like a real emblem. peeled the tape, re cleared...and well... Voila' Finished product!!

aww man where the fire?
i was waiting for some flames on that bad boy......
still looks great and clean. i bet he was happy with the results.
truck bed liner in a hummer huh
next time do a light color base then your emblem and you can go back with some black and shade about 1/2 below the emblem and it will look like it floats
drop shadows are fun..

yeah, but no real way to do a drop shadow on black.
It was a silver base then went in and highlighted and shadowed.
I used to be quite adept at airbrush.(was originally an art student before my brother got me into the bodyshop.

pictures never do paintwork justices. how big was the area you did, was it just the box and small amp section? how many hours did it take you on average to finish the screwup and about roughly what did you charge the guy?
all good info people need to know about this kind of work as it isn't cheap but it doesn't have to be out of reach either.
looks good...
