Hiding in the well

Well I am building a box from the demensions on the post above,
but I want to hide the box under the privacy cover. I am worried that if I modify the box in any way, I won't get the best sound I can get out of what I've got. I don't want to leave it all in the open I want it to look like I don't have nothing back there. If possible I'd like some pics and ideas from the pros (jim85iroc) please.

SO I'M A FRIGGIN ROOKIE GIVE ME A BREAK

I have no pics, but I did make a box that hides down in the well and the top of the box rest's on the side (steps) or whatever. I was able to put 2 JL 10's in there. i had to go with a tad thinner board but it still sounds awesome. I used factory carpet from a wrecked thirdgen to cover the box top so it looks factory. Only problem was you have to put the box in and back plastic panel at the same time because it will not slide in on an angle by itself.

If you're talking about the rough design in the sticky thread then you should have no problems with the privacy cover. The box will extend to the top of the well making it level with the top of the hump.

Also, smaller box = less volume. Depending on your sub(s) this may or may not have a drastic effect.

My advice to you is to remember that the sub doesn't necessarily need to face up to work well. I built an enclosure for a friend's Trans Am that had a single 12" sub facing back instead of up, and I just left a little bit of space for the sound to get out between the back of the box and the back of the car. The top of the enclosure had 2 flush mounted amps in it, but it could just as easily have been plain carpet so that it would blend in with the floor of the car. The result is a stock-like appearance, but with better sound quality than trying to get the sound to play through the stock hatch cover.

Another choice is to flush mount the subs, or mount them from behind so that you can cover the top with a grill. There are a lot of ways to use a grill to make a sub disappear.

I prefer rear-facing, or down-firing sub boxes instead of hatch firing...

if you ask me, the hatch reflects more of the upper-end bass which bothers my ears...

plus if you make it rear-firing, you can hide it well.

I think I forgot to mention that the amp is mounted down there with the speakers as well. I'm thinking about making a place between the speakers where I could install the amp. Will that have any effect on the sound quality if do it that way? Like I said I need pics so I can get an idea on how to do this.

you are saying you want to mount the amp to the subwoofer box? if so... eh, I've never been a fan of it... a lot of people do it... I just don't like the idea of the amp being ON the box... and if the box isn't superbly-made, it will vibrate a lot (well it will vibrate a lot more...)

just seems like extra wear on the amp soldering joints and whatnot
