Help me choose between these 3 headunits

I'm going to order a headunit thursday and have narrowed it down to these 3 and I'm not even sure all are options.

I like the looks of the Pioneer DEH-P580MP, but can't tell for sure from the pics if it's silver or black? I need a black headunit which has been hard to find. Anyone know for sure?

I also like the Kenwood KDC-x790 which also may be silver/gray. Anyone know on this one.

Last one that I am pretty sure is definitely black is the Kenwood KDC-EZ500.

Anyone have any of these headunits of any suggestion on which to pick. I had also looked at a few of the Eclipse ones but don't like the idea of not having a detatchable faceplate.

There are not many differences, quality wise, between any of the mid-priced head units offered by the mainstream manufacturers. It is highly doubtfull that the radio will cease to work or the CD mechanism fail to rotate. What you must decide for yourself is what FEATURES you want. Things like SRS sound processing (a really wondefull feature if you can get it), or a remote control, or pre-amp outputs for subwoofers or outboard amps.

These are what you need to make a list of

I have a DEH-P580 on my bench now. To the right of the volume **** there is a black insert. It's around the display, the preset buttons, the wight EQ/Source button, all the way to the edge. This is set in the silver plastic that is seen to the left of the volume ****. The silver on this model is a little duller then the shiny silver Pioneer used on other models. Display is blue, button back lighting is red. If it was me I'd go for the X790, the EZ500 doesn't support AAC file play back, but thats only if you care about that, it will do MP3 and WMA.

Is the X790 black thought? I really can't tell from the pics online...maybe if I call around someone can tell me for sure.

Go with the EZ, you won't be disappointed. I have installed tons of them and seen very little problems.

The X790 is black in the middle and it's more of a gray on the sides of the faceplate.

kdc-x990

I just installed the kenwood kdc-x990 and it is awesome. It is black with a little gray and has every option. Has a g-meter which lets you know how fast you are in the quarter or how hard you are cornering or breaking. It has full eq controls and can control a matching external amp. The screen is like a tv but it is not one of those tv units.

Do you have a pic of it in the car that you can post ASAP? How much gray are we talking?

I found the unit I really want but it's last years model and hard to find. The places that have it are way out of my price range too. It's the Kenwood XXV-01D

look on e-bay and you will see one. There is not much gray to it or black for that matter it is mostly screen. The outer plastic is black with a tiny chrome strip at the bottom. With it powered up and the screen and all the lights working it is visually impressive.

Bought a headunit....2 actually

Well I was looking around this afternoon and stumbled on the Kenwood XXV-01D which was last years 25th Anniversary model and really liked it. The price was way too high but I found a dealer on ebay willing to cut me a good deal on it. I didn't find out he was going to accept it until I had gone out and bought the EZ500 at a local store. Luckily I didn't open it so I'm pretty certain I can return it tomorrow.

If you haven't seen it before check out the XXV-01D..it looks SWEET!

Thanks for all the help guys.
