help with sub making funny noises.

well i have a problem. the sub is an audiobahn 8" powered tube sub thats 100watts rms from what i remember. now ive got it all wired up properly and its been working for months on end now. on saturday car got into a fender bender and now the sub just keeps thumping not even to the song beat even when the radio is off. i checked the ground and the ground is nice and good. then i plug in the rcas and the thumping gets louder and more obnoxious. what the hell just happened to the sub? btw got rearended then slammed into car in front.

thats a powered sub correct?you dont have a amp?if you do have a amp, make sure you check the settings on it,usually if the gain is up to high then it does that,if the car accident jolted the amp then check the settings and stuff.also check your power wire all the way to the battery for crimps and cuts.usually if the ground is weak the amp wont turn on.the bass is just hitting? its not rattleing or anything? thats what i would check for

its the powered version with the built in amp. yea the light is on showing power and i had the setting tuned the one day it just started doing it after being rearended. i had the gain up like half way and boost up none and the lpf at about half way. but now i turned them all down and i can still feel the sub hitting randomly even when the headunit is not playing. also when i remove the rcas from it it still hits almost sounds like a fart car on a foreign car.

I'm no expert by any means but when my car first turns on I always get one little thump from my sub, no head unit playing or nothing, so perhaps your amp is sending a signal to the sub or something or got whacked in the accident and maybe something came loose in the amp. Just tossing an idea around.

sounds like ur just gettin some interference throught the wires...check all ur wires.....rca's should be running down the car opposite to the power wire. Make sure the rca's are good. Check to see if after the accident the rca connectors on the amp aren't loose. If it broke it could be tapping. Also make sure where its grounded that u sanded down all paint to bare mettle. Paint can interfere.....just some ideas. i would guess b/c u got rearended it would be the amp if it was in the back.

well yea the sub was in the trunk but i have it in their nicely so it doesnt move an inch even under hard conditions. the rcas are good they are run opposite the power wire and they are twisted rcas so they are good. the ground is good i double checked that. i think something got messed in the amp too i hope not my gf will be dissappointed.

i had the same problem with the thumping noise but with a regular amp. the rca connector solder had come loose from the circuit board inside the amp. make sure the rca connectors on the sub arent loose. the solder could have cracked/broken.
