what kind of wood?

im just wondering what kind of wood you guys use to make your boxes and also what kind of effect it has on the sound. i listen to more old and new metal sounds and a few people told a couple of 10 inch subs will do better for me, im preat new to all this so all help will be appecirated

most guys just use mdf or medium density fiberboard

3/4 mdf is nice, just make sure to pre drill and counter sink your holes the stuff likes to split. MDF will have no wood grain to it when you buy it, it will almost look like overgrown solid cardboard. If you can't get MDF you can use OSB or particle board but I would just step up to Birch at that point. 3/4in mdf runs about 20 a sheet, Birch runs around 35; Birch is unbeleviably hard and will give hardly any flex. I know that at alot of our local Home Depot's and Lowes stores they're starting to carry only 5/8ths MDF, don't use this unless your box is going to be comprised of very small panels (under 12 X 12). The stuff may be rigid but at that thickness it gives alot of flex and you will lose performance. Also remember to use copious ammounts of wood glue on all your seams and run a bead inside the box as a sealer. Good luck on the build.
