Has any one used one in there car. I noteced that alpine sales a usb adapter for my head unit. So I was thinking of using a 160gb usd external hard drive to store my music on. So has anyone done this before. Or dose anyone have any thoughts on this. Thanks! Adam :-)
ive never tried it but my jvc head unit the newest line supports usb outputs, it has it built right in to the front so i can plug in my ipod or flash key, i can use an external hard drive but just dont have one it will work with the jvc head unit though

I actually have an omnifi system that has never been installed and is new in the box. I got it in a package deal with the home streamer. It basically uses a harddrive and controller in the car and uses inputs through your deck for audio. You can pop the hard drive out of the case and bring it in the house to load it with music OR use your wireless network to drop songs on the hard drive in the car. Yes, you have to use a wireless network antenna that connects to the drive caddy in your car. Pretty neat. You just need RCA's in the back of your deck.
Good info here.
I am thinking of selling. I was planning on keeping it after my video ipod broke but I may just try to buy the replacement parts and fix it. Let me know if you are interested.

IF you are looking for some kind of portable hard drive that plays music, movies, a camera, video camera, and portable and all look no further than the Archos Av 500 www.archos.com . I have used it in my car for many times and no problems wiht a 100 gb hard drive which allows me to bring my media anywhere especially in my car without the hassle of flipping through cd's. For $400 smacks for the 100 gb and $250 for the 30gb its well worth the price, as you are paying for quality. I Extremely not recommend ipod as you are paying for name, plus copyright issues, plus limitations. Archos av 500 plays any type of music file or any type of video file from mp4,avi,wmv, etc...
I highly recommend it for use if you hate flipping through cd's in your car and want a portable solution that you can bring with you.
