previous radio install - WHAT A MESS.

I just received my IROC via shippment today. First thing I know I will need to address is the radio. I get NO POWER right now.

It is not mounted, just stuck in the hole and the wiring is a mess.

In the above pic, I am wondering if that is an adapter where the the black, white, and blue stock wire harnesses are plugged into??? Better pic below.

I check the fuse box and see this:

There is a red wire that looks as though it went to an amp and leads to the rear. It was just stuffed up in the square whole you see right above the end of the red wire. I believe it said "radio 10a" with an arrow pointing to the square hole.

What really goes there? I don't see anything loose that should be plugged in.

As you can see, I really need some help getting music in this car. Can someone help me out with this? I think I need to start all over and redo this guys work all together. But I don't know what I am missing. Suggestions and help is greatly appreciated!!!!

Phil

Yea, no power. Acc or start. The deck won't come on. Fuse on the deck is good. I think it has to do with that crap in the fuse box. Something is not right there. I just don't know what is should look like stock.

We just need someone to chime in with the fuse block wiring diagram... then you can just tap in yourself... not worry about how the previous owner rigged it up...

Axle/Gears: huh?? guessing stock.
alright in you pic there are three empty spots above the red wire. in my caar these are 12V hot at all times. I simple crimped on a male spade terminal and jammed it in there then ran that to a fuse holder and then to my decks constant. is it the right way? no. did it work? Yes.

Ok. that sounds good. It is also good to know those are 12v hot constant.

Thanks.

Can you tell me if the white, blue, and black wire plugs that are plugged into the black thing above are the stock harnesses plugged into an adapter?? I am wondering in case I go back with a stock head later.

hmm... sounds like an issue then. Dont know what to say, other than the way I normally do this is to run a 10G line from batt POS to a relay source, then 10G relay out to an aftermarket fuseblok. Find a factory wire that bocomes hot on run and splice a wire into it and to the relays Trigger. Ground relay. now once you turn n the car this new fuse block is hot. run a line from it to your HU switched power line. for the HU constant line tap into the new fuseblock input, from the relay, and you are golden.

run new speaker leads if you need to, remember the factory wire is how many years old?? or if you are like me I cut off my HU speaker leads since I use RCA's and amps.

Thanks for the info. I may end up doing the fuse block idea anyway. I like the painless wiring system. No amp or anything. I just want normal tunes. Thanks again.

Bump ---

Would someone mind snapping a pic of their intact, stock fuse box for me? I would appreciate that.

man, get rid of those wire nuts. All you need to do is get a wiring diagram of it and then just get a new power, or tap off of something else.

Agreed... I typically solder and use heat shrink.

I did not think about the tech articles. I will look through there. Thanks.

in my opinion GUT IT take out every wire leading to that rats nest and start from fresh that looks like a fire hazard waiting to happen

Definitely. I agree 100% - That is also why I am trying to figure out what is supposed to be where in the fuse box.

If it hasn't been answered yes the blue, white and black are the factory connectors.I agree go back to basics and take all the added wiring out. Then check your fuses and you may find something may have shorted causing the no power situtation.
