I have mine on top of the dash and hard wired in so there is no cord showing. I have Escort 8500 and it is not that visible.

mount it above your rearview and hard wire it into the map lights mounted in the mirrior. It will be mostly out of sight that way.

well normally a radar detector comes with some form of winshield mounting suction cup doohickey. use that and mount the thing above the miror. If you dont have the map lights I mentioned just extend the wires so that you can tuck tehm under the headliner and connect them to the dome light.

i dont think hookin up to the dome will work unless you want your dome light on when your radar is on

LOL. Your not immune to the law though. No offense but anyone letting you off because you are an officer is breaking the law themselves.

radar

I run a BELL 880. It's a couple of hundred bucks but is undetectable (for the most part...they are all detectable to some degree). Stay away from jammers as they DO NOT work and will get you busted. If you live in a state like VA R/D are illegal all the way around. However, I run my 880 with no problems....in a tractor trailer. BTW, if you get cought with a R/D in a truck the fine is $1300 bucks. That's in AL though. Bottom line is.... don't rush out and buy a cheapie R/D and think your safe. Even the most expensive ones will get you nailed under the right conditions.

Nice glock - nine mil? I hate the way they don't have safty's. Just want to post a question/suggestion on here. Can you mount it in the overhead console and put a piece of plexi glass thats semi tented over the obvious area's to cover it up?

Think of radar as light. The more you block a light sensor, the less sensitive it will be.

ye, thats a 9. I dont really mind no saftey, it is just one more thing in the way if you get suprised and need it RIGHT NOW.

as long as you dont cover the lenses of the detector you should be ok. Kev is right, they are line of sight light beams basically.

I run a Passport 7500 and it's mounted just under the rear view mirror. The front of the unit must not be covered by the darker tinted area of the windshield as it greatly reduces the sensitivity. I use the suction cup mount, the unit is attatched directly below the darker tinted area. I used the flat wire instead of the coiled wire to power it. I ran from under the dash, behind the A pillar and behind the headliner.

If you get pulled for speeding and you are running using a RD, you'll most likely get a ticket. I don't normally speed but sometimes get caught up in the moment and don't realize I'm speeding.

I still have my old Escort Passport (small compact w/ metal case) back from the late '80's that probably works just as good or better than the newer ones for X and K bands.

From al of the reviews I've read over the years the only two that consistently perform well above the others are Passport (Escort) and Valentine.

Know your facts before saying what is illegal.
Cops that pull you over 9/10 ten times are going to write a ticket, otherwise if they thought like you say you do then why bother pulling anyone over to begin with ?

Using the good old boy system (your badge) to get out of a ticket could easily be construed as discrimation or harassment if I got a ticket in similiar situation and if the right people found out it could get ugly.

Don't get your panties in a wad, you gladly volunteered the pic of your gun and badge and told us proudly how
you are immune to the law by having your get of jail free card. Get over it, officer.

I have an old 80's RD as well and it still works great. It is just the lazers that worry me hence I am looking to upgrade to a very good combo unit.

I rarely run into a laser around the Charlotte area. But they will pop up ever so often.

I would consider the Passport or Valentine. I prefer the Passport simply due to my past experience.

I am sorry to here that you would rely on a mechanical safety rather than be safe with a gun. Yeah you could prolly mount it that way but thats a lot of work for something that isnt a guarentee, like a gun safety...

Actually, the dome light works by grounding, so there is always power going to the light just it doesn't ground. So, getting power from the dome will make the radar detector always on, but you can't ground through the dome light.

Besides that, this thread is about one comment off topic away from getting closed.

If you want a high quality Radar your gonna spend a good ammount of money ... I have a Valentine V1 its a 1000x better than anything else i've used. It gives the direction of the cop, how many there are, band type, AND a rear direction radar scan

I did. I used the (+) from the dome light and ground (-) it directly to the bare metal of the frame

Which means you didn't use both the power and the ground from the dome light, which is what he said you can't do.

Dome light + and ground to frame = good idea for power to that area.
