so an amp question
a friend gave me 2x Rockford Fosgate P212D4 Punch Stage 2 12" subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils , link
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Op2EVEV...20&I=575P212D4
he gave me them for helping fix his computer (know more about the pc then i do my car)
now i need an amp but i dont REALY know how to tell what i need? do i need an 1000 watt amp?
Details:
» 12" subwoofer with two 4-ohm voice coils
» molded polypropylene cone with foam surround
» 60-ounce magnet and aluminum voice coil former
» power range: 50-250 RMS watts (125 watts per voice coil)
» peak power: 500 watts
says 500 peak so 500x2=1000
or should i run some mono amps like my friend has (he says running 2x mono subs would be better)
i dont mind spending money on a good amp but i dont wanna buy something that wont let these speakers work as intended. any suggestions? or help me understand whats needed to run subwoofers
ohms
rms
watts
is what i kinda get but my current setup sounds great when running 1 sub on my amp but its running a 4ohm 10in sub on a 4 ohm amp , but my amp says its its 8 ohm on the box but the specs says its only a 4ohm amp , thats why i am gonna give it to my uncle when i get this amp

1.Ohms. without getting too complicated, the total ohm load your amp will see will be 1 ohm or 4 ohms mono, 2 ohm stereo. (since you happened upon RF's website, find the wiring wizard-it will show you how) Now you need an amp that is compatible with one of the two ways you can wire the subs. If it is a two channel, it needs to be 2ohm stereo stable or 4 ohm mono stable. If you get a dedicated sub amp(or one channel mono amp in other words, find one that is stable to one ohm.
RMS. This is how many watts the sub will handle CONTINUOUSLY, WITHOUT REGARD TO PEAKS AND DIPS IN POWER. tHOSE
