Good placements of a system? I'm stumped!
Good placements of a system? I'm stumped!
Ok, so I'm currently trying to think of how to put 2 15" woofers, and a 12" woofer into a '88 firebird. It seems like an easy job at first, but I'm wanting to have a setup where the 15's can be seen from any passengers. THIS is a bit more of a chore
. Below are some screenies of what I'm working with as far as an interior goes:

As far as interior modding goes, I'm fine with doing some cutting to make it happen, if it's readily possible that is. I know that woofers (15's especially) require a lot of free space to work nicely, and I'm trying to get the best thump possible from this. Does anyone have any ideas that might work? I'm only seeing the only way to do it is to put them all behind the backseats' headrests. Thanks!
PS.. I know it's a weird setup having 2 15's and a 12, but hell, if you have the power, put it to use! Besides, the 12 is more for "quality" being a premiere and less for the thump.

i would build a ported box in the back seats or a band bass and have a sealed box in the back its what i planed on doing till i decided on just 2 12's
do you mean while taking the seats out? Because the seats are really.. kinda needed atm. If there's no way to have them showing AND keeping the seats in, then I guess I'll have to stick them behind the rear seats.
And I'm sorry if I am misinterpreting what you're saying. I'm still not.. TOO GOOD on that vocabulary because I'm still really new to audio-setups, and I'm trying to catch on with it all. Thanks for the feedback

ok what i would do is skip the 15s. but you not me so. what you can do is build a custom box and take out the rear seat that is the only possible way you will get enough air for the 15s. As for the 12s ge a box that is made for a camaro/firebird that fits in the hatch memphis has a nice one

hmm, ya I guess that's really the only way I CAN go xD
But I'll probably stick them immediately behind the back seats because that extra open spot in the very back of the car, right by the trunk hatch looks like it's destined to bring down your entire system with even a minor rear-end, and these days you can't trust other drivers
or, someone just correct me if I'm wrong anyways about them not being safe.

ok well
ok well i had a ford ranger drive over the rear of my 84 the subs in the hole were fine the 12s on top got wrecked. but any way Qlogic has a good sealed 12 box at best buy. it has a 90degree front and angled rear.it fits good and sounds awsome.
hmm, I'll check into that! I was considering making my own boxes because I have everything needed and am good w/ wood-work/carpeting. It shouldn't be TOOO badly different, as long as colors match just right and I use appropriate dimensions. So let me get this straight, because it's just a rough idea I heard. I've read that the IDEAL volume of boxes are:
10" = 1 ft^3
12" = 2 ft^3
15" = 3.7ft^3
is this about right? Or should I go by another guideline?

Hmmmm.. where to start. for the box volume issue, check with the manufacturer of your model of sub. Using a generic volume size is really not good enough anymore. It may work but you also may damage or worse, not get every last bit of bass from them!! 1 cube for a ten is common but some only need half a cube. and so on and so forth for the bigger woofers. I would only use the 15's or the 12. Not both. You will very quickly start running out of space. Try to utilize the hatch for its natural "horn" tendancies. This acts to acoustically amplify your bass. Last time I built a box for a 15 for one of these cars, it fit in the well and took up room to the rear of the back seats. 3 cubic feet is a lot of space. Remember to adequately brace that box!! the more the box flexes the more you lose efficiency (loudness) of that sub system. I use a double baffle for my sub boxes. It gives me an inch and a half of thickness. It really does make a difference. Also use bolts not screws to mount your subs. And a bit of locktite 222 to keep the bolts from coming lose. Anything else I can help you with let me know.
