Sub box in back???

Bit of a newbie question, but here goes... I'm thinking of adding 2 10'' subs and an amp in my Camaro.. I've heard and seen that the sub boxes that are built specifically for our wells are better than the conventional boxes, but i'm wondering, does it leave any space left if I would need to store sumthing? Would I need to keep takin the box out everytime i need some cargo space? Also, what about if I have my t-tops off?? ANY help is much appreciated...

For a vert you would need to make a custom box that can lift out at will. You could go with fibreglass to save some weight. Flat subs would be best to keep the box fairly small. You could go thie 3 8" subs also to keep the box small. There are some decent stereo shop that can do the work in Toronto or the GTA. Just stay away from the hack shops. A lot of places don't know what they are doing. I could send you some shops names to go to......I am not affiliated with any stereo shop....just competed in IASCA for a number of years and used to judge.

google stealth box.. i forget who makes one but they go in the side where the "storage"compartment is but they only hold 1 sub so 1-12" or 1-10".. my buddy as one in his 95 trans am with t-tops and you cant even tell he has a sub until its on.. they are a little pricy but well worth it

Thanx billsblue89, that would be great... Any opinions on what sounds better? Im thinking 2 10'subs but im not sure if it better to run one amp or two. The factory 4X6's in the dasn and the 6X9's in the quarters have been replaced by Kaption audio speakers which sound pretty good. Maybe one 12' sub maybe be better for me I dont plan on winning any db contests, just want a lil more bottom end...

Some dont like this type of set-up, but this allows me to still store my T-tops & they dont block the subs when i store them back there.I am running two 12in Cerwin Vega free air subs here.I have also hinged the lid so i can open this & keep a few items in the trunk space. The lock from the original locking lid has been intergrated into this lid so its also lockable.Though ive never put anything down there, except the amps!

I bought a sub box from crutchfields. It's made to fit the well and holds two ten inch subs.there's still room under it for storage.I put my amps down there and added handles to the box to make it easier to remove.I also put fans in the sub box to blow on the amps.Works great.

Mentioned above in this post, theres two styles, one of which "sit right down in there". Im planning on going that route with two 10s, anyone have a pic of that style? Figured if post here instead of starting a new thread.

I've actually had both of those boxes in my car at one time or another. If I were you, I'd look into getting the one that rhomanski bought. The only difference is the one you want goes ALL the way down into the cargo well, and the one he bought lays flat across the first set of humps in the well. I've had both and they're identical aside from airspace. The smaller box will work fine. Those boxes are heavy to begin with, so any weight you can lose is a bonus. If money were no issue (yeah right) Q Logic makes an awesome box that matches the interior plastic. It actually looks like part of the interior panels. As far as the pictures your looking for, it will more or less look identical to the pic posted by 841LE, except w/10" subs.

Cool, yea weight and SPACE is an issue for me. I checked out another thread, i saw a few pix of ones i like. I really like the setup that deadbird and a few others have. If i get the small one that goes to the very bottom of the well, i will still have a useable trunk, this car is babied, and goes real quick, but i want it to be practical as well. Thanks for the info though.

so what do those boxes weigh? That is the thing I would be most concerned about, no sense in being able to bump down the road and not be able to put up at a stop light because i got 100lbs of speaker in the trunk. Can you post the link to the one from crutchfield too please?

Thats not too bad, though maybe if I got some more weight in the back, my tires wouldnt spin as much

Even with my amp there, I can still tie down my T-Tops.

Here is what I did in mine. It's a 10" Alpine in a custom build slot vented box. 300RMS/900Peak sub and amp (Rockford). It's alot more than I thought it would be. The good thing about this set-up is that I take it out by only unplugging the wires and lifting out the box. Also, I don't have any t-top problems.

Box and amp

Hey,

Until I build a fiberglassed box for my hatch I have just cust a piece of thick plywood with holes for 2 12's and run a 300 watt Fosgate amp to them. I have laid the board across the sides of the hatch so they are set in deep and not visible at first, using the tub as the box. Sound is excellent and lots of bass from the Alpine type s 12's, Alpine head unit as well. Cheap way to get great bass and the pressure in the car is so much that you get a headache if the windows are up. So for those of you trying to find that magic setup, try this in the interum.

hey, 91_5.7_TPI, got a question about your setup. I like the setup you have way deep down, but what is your sound quality like? Does it sound muiffled at all because its pointed towards the side?

I had a JL W3 in the same exact position and trust me it doesn't sound muffled a bit. Mine was actually a bit louder aiming sideways as opposed to up. I still have the box, it's a 1.0 cubic foot ported enclosure and it sounds amazing; running off of a Rockford 300 watt amp. The SQ from a single small sub setup like this is better than the pair of subs I had in the sealed enclosure, and they were comparable subs. I ported my hatch well box and it sounded good, but I wanted the space for my nitrous bottle in the hatch so it was back to the single enclosure.

This configuration seems to make more bass than it would facing up. The guys that built the box (and they do ALOT of systems) said it is louder than what they expected. I really like the arrangment. My deck adjustes from -15 to +15. I run the amp at around 80% and the deck at -7 to -3 most of the time and it's plenty loud for me.

well if u dont mind loosing the back seats, make a box outta that area, and mount your amps in there too (fits 2 12's and 2 amps easily), youll have plenty of room for your t-tops and your Well for storage...

Bad newz.................you could run 2 10" shallow mount subs with no problem. I was reading a comparison test with the pioneer and clarion subs in a mag last month (I think it was car audio and electronics magazine). The article chose the clarion over the pioneer for sound quality and overall sound for rock, jazz and rap. Have not heard these subs personally.

+1 for mounting in the back seat area, i did it cause u cant fit anyone back there really and i wanted the trunk space for my nitrous bottle
though im actually ripping it all out now and gonna install a simple bazooka 8inch tube in the back since im starting to get more serious with racing the car.
lol i weighed my car today and it weighed in at almost 4,000 pounds with me in it

For the most part, ANY box that uses the well is ok with T-tops. I had one which angled toward the front, and was still able to lay my tops in the back. However, I did invest in a set of grilles for the subs as T-tops weren't the only thing that went in the back.
