Kicker vs. Hifonics

Ok, after reading many many individual amp reviews, I'm pretty sure I've narrowed my mind down to two last amps. Either I want to get a Hifonics BXI1606D or a Kicker 2006 ZX1500.1. I know the Kicker has the Hifonics amp beat hands down, yet I'm not sure if the difference is as vast as the money difference is. As mentioned, I'm powering two woofers (700rms/1400peak@2 ohm) so maybe one of these is a better choice for this setup. If anyone has any other amp suggestions, it'd be much appreciated .

Oh, and the woofers are Hifonics Brutus BX15D2 15"

I am using a hifonics amp for my boys stereo. Its like 14 years old so its "old school". Anyway, you touched on a couple of things. The primary one is "The Law of Diminished Returns" Or is a 1500 dollar amp 800 dollars better than a 700 dollar amp. My guess is that the Hifonics amp will do just fine for your application. I am assuming you will wire series parallel to get a 2 ohm load on the amp since your dual voice coil 2 ohm per coil woofers would give a very difficult load wired parallel. Also as per our other postings, your 2 15's only require 2 cubic feet per woofer in a sealled enclosure. I went to the website and found the specs.

If its either hi-fonics or kicker definetly get kicker hands down. They are a bit more costly but are quality built and built for competitions.

My thereoy is buy a really good amp the first time and you never have to spend money to replace it.

I also want you to consider highly a MTX 1501D or the MTX 81000d
Both amps are amazing amps that I have had the privilage to own. I sold the 1501d to a friend and I regret it.
both amps are rated at 1000rms at 2ohm @12v 1500rms at 1 ohm @14.4v

Do yourself a favor either the kicker or mtx !!!!

I have an older Hiphonics amp, the Brutus 1500.1 mono dclass block that Ill swear by. Ive never used a kicker amp but I do love their subs. So I think either choice will be a good buy.

haha, ok, I'll hold that in though as far as the MTX goes. I'll do a bit of researching on it.

As far as the cf issue goes, are you sure it's only 2 cf!!?! I figured most 15" woofers were a minimum of 3 cf, and about average of 3.7 cf. I do know that brands tend to give you a small amount on purpose, as to make sure their product is not going through as much stress as we'd like to put them through, and by giving a lower recommended air space, it's potentially keeping the woofer safer, meaning they don't have to worry about fixing or anything of that nature.

Well I am not going argue. I do know that if USD or Boston Acoustics or any other reputable/ high end speaker manufacturer recomends a specific volume I abide by it. I am sure lesser manufacturers will do a generic or undersized volume to make their "made in China" sub attractive to people. Here is the website link

haha, agreed xD..

So do you think that this woofer would be.. one of these "China-brands" that you're talking about? I know their amps are close to how good they say the yare (not like boss, pyramid, or legacy or anything of that caliber), but I'm mainly concerned as so I don't blow it out immediately because the statistics lied to me. I'm jsut not sure if their woofers are quite as honest as their amps.

I am not going to insinuate anything about equipment that i do not own. I know there used to be only 3 U.S. speaker manufacturers. Of course that was in the 90's. My guess is that a lot of the equipment, speakers and electronics are made in china. Again its why I recommend following manufacturer specs. That way if you do smoke the speaker you followed what they spec'd out.

It depends on what you want to do with the system. If you are building an everyday system to cruise around in, I'd recommend buying the latter amp and saving the extra cash for something else. Any amp will melt when abused. Also your EAR will melt when abused. If you feel the other amp is worth the extra $$ then go with that.

buy the kicker.. if its a new hifonics dont bother.. spend the extra money now instead of risking the chance of having problems with the hifonics and sending mroe money,, buy the kicker and that thing will last forever and you wont be dissapointed
