run an amp without subs

Does anyone have a setup that runs an amp but does not have subs in the trunk? I do not want to subs because it adds weight and theft factors. I'm not sure what hu, I will end up using, probably a couple year older high end Pioneer (6600+). I will be replacing the spec-unknown 5" diameter Bose speakers with a different speakers either round or 4*6 that are atleast middle grade. My rears are Infinity Kappa's so I'll be keeping them. Finally, I want to run the amp under either the driver's or passenger's side seat. I'm not looking for rattle the car apart noise, just something that is moderately decent. Recommendations based on my situation?

a 2 channel amp to match the kappa perfects in the back i would say is the best way to go. as for the HU i recommend a clarion DXZ655 and up models shouldnt be expensiveas thats an 05 model. has all features to make your car sound good. but if youre going to put 4x6s in dash they dont handle lots of power so not even worth amping a HU will run then well enough. if you want really good sound look into kickpanels with speakers such as 5.25-6.5" component systems which NEED to be amped to sound great and will sound the best.

What about putting an 8" sub in the factory 6x9 location? You could then put speakers either in the door or put qforms in the kick panel.

Just a thought.........

Try powering the speakers off the head unit first. You may find that it provides sufficient power. If not, then a small 2 channel amp will suffice. You should run a high-pass filter on the front speakers, and in doing so, your power requirements for those speakers will be minimal, and well within the capabilities of the head unit. Running the 6x9s full range will require more power, and that's where you'll benefit most from the amp.

Another choice though, is to stick with the plan for a 4 channel amp. Power all 4 speakers with it, and if you do decide to add a subwoofer later, you can use 2 of those amp channels for the sub, and let the other 2 amp channels continue powering the front speakers. It'll give you more upgrade flexibility.
