What were the audio options in 3rd gens?
I ask because frankly, I've seen a lot. I'm looking for stock options only. I installed some speakers and an amp into my car this weekend and have some interesting finds. These are all in an '88 T/A.
First, my car did come with this dohicky:

Then, I found this 4x6 stock unit. Furter research reveals that it is possibly a Bose(?).

That same 4x6 also sat in this really, really, really odd enclosure that also had a stock tweeter (sorry no pics of the tweeter!). Has ANYONE else ever had this? I've never seen them til now!!!

That all came from the rear sail speakers, behind the cloth cover. Under the dash, I found a similar pair of stock 4x6's and decided to run my new 4 channel to them for the hell of it. I'm extremely suprised that they're handling the power and volume amazingly well.

^^ Yup. I'm assuming it was included in the optioned audio package for my T/A. I bought the car from the original owner, but he had every record except the original Bil of Sale and widow sticker.

I can't remember the name of that setup. I think its called perfomance sound or somthing like that. But it was the high end setup for the birds. Camaros got the bose. And everything else got the 4x6/6x9 setup. Adam :-)

I had that in my car originally, it held the option UQ7 and had a emblem on the radio pod faceplate that read "performance Sound"
it came with a different version of stock radio that had a full Equalizer and cassette playback.
It seems it was fairly common in firebirds in 1988 as even my modestly optioned car got it, seems to be uncommon in other years.
what you refer to as tweeters were actually 5" subwoofers.
I didn't really notice anything performance about the setup really, so I replaced the speaker boxes with 6x9's and removed the subwoofer and gain switch, and sold them on ebay.
the original EQ equipped radio was stolen before I bought the car, and the performance audio faceplate was destroyed in the theft.
this can be a sought after setup to firebird owners and restorers.
