Has anyone seen a red or orange headunit?
I currently have a Sony something (that has actually worked very well, without fail for over a year) but the neon blue and green buttons are starting to annoy me. I love the orange glow of my 87 Trans Am dash and I hate how the blue clashes with the orange. I don't want Las Vegas in my car! So can anyone help me find a head unit with 1) CD/MP3 playback 2)aux input (for external mp3 player) 3)under $200. I'm not brand picky, and I don't plan to abuse it, my all Sony system has served me very well (since I hear its junk). I mainly want it to be orange, or red in color. I don't mind if its adjustable color, so long as its orange or red. I was looking into a few panasonic headunits, are there any others? Thanks....

hhmm, thats a bit out of my price range (I actually want to spend around $150), so far I'm leaning toward a Panasonic since I don't need "extraordinary" sound, plus it has bluetooth...

See if anyone still sells the CDX GT510 from Sony. That's what I have and it has a green or red setting. I think red is the default. Semms like it was around $150.00 at Best Buy back in January of this year.

My old Kenwood has an Orange/Amber look its identical to my Formula dash lights... For a long time Kenwood had backlighting that was either ORange or Green, push the button and it would switch...

Sony has one that is mostly red. The main dial is illuminated with a white ring though. It has 3 pre-outs, mp3, and bluetooth capable too i think. A couple of the local stores here are selling them. Could check out crutchfield.com, maybe they got something. This sony unit is around $200.
Yeah its a bad deal now that its so hard to find red illuminated cd players. I don't want nothing other than red lights in my cd player or gauges because red is very easy on the eyes(for focusing).

The ring around the **** on the unit I mentioned is red. The screen is always blue though.

Do what I did for a guy's show truck once...
He wanted his alarm remote to have a blue LED, instead of the red it had, to match his blue truck. So I opened the remote, pulled the red LED out, and soldered in a blue one instead.
I don't see why you couldn't do that to a stereo.

Thanks for the info guys, I definitely have my work cut out for me since I want one with all red/orange buttons, I wouldn't want blue screens mixed in with orange buttons...

It's not bad IMO. I can snap you a picture later on. It dims dwn when you turn the parking lights or headlights on if you wire up the dimmer wire from the radio to the factory consoles dimmer wire.
I never even look at my head unit though.

I'm mainly leaning toward the Panasonic cq-c7413u. It has all the features I want, but I would still like to search for more options? Does anyone have specific model numbers they'd like to suggest?

Just do what i did! I put a Monsoon head unit in out of a 2000 firebird. Perfect fit, and bolts in factory holes, plus it has red illumination.

Re: Has anyone seen a red or orange headunit?
I had this one in my 91 bird. It matched the guages really well. It cost about $120. JVC KDS73R. I ended up selling my 91 with this stereo in it. about 2 months later I heard that the guy totaled the car. I liked this stereo so much that I went to the junk to buy it from the wrecked car. lol.

Re: Has anyone seen a red or orange headunit?
look at a pioneer deh-5. The backlit is an orange-red and would work for your application.
Re: Has anyone seen a red or orange headunit?
i've spent a good deal of time looking around at prices and whatnot. i'm told that crutchfield has good customer service, but, after comparing prices, there's NO WAY that i'd buy something from them... way too high. i'd call 'em and ask about the units that they have that have what you're looking for, and then buy it from someone else (sorry, if i'm working for my money, i'm making the most of it), especially if you're sticking to a lower-end budget. try etronics.com. i've bought a few stereo components from 'em and had nothing but great experiences. and you can't beat their prices unless you go used.

Re: Has anyone seen a red or orange headunit?
I agree, crutchfield did seem a bit high. But I normally look up the model numbers on ebay and sometimes get cheaper results...

I ordered subwoofers from crutchfeild. even though there expensive their customer service is great and everything was paid for and shipped out when they said it would. Great website and great customer support, but only if your willing to shell out a few more bucks.
