Re: Need new speakers, car audio noob! need help!

I have had many different 6x9's but there are only 4 brands that scream @ me.

1. Kicker 3-ways
2. Pioneer 5-ways
3. Sony's high end xplods 4-ways
4. Kenwood excellon 3-ways

Any other speaker to me just plain was garbage. Polks are ok but not really that crisp sounding. Hope that this will help you.

bose suck and if your replaceing speakers do it in all 4 so you dont blow or distort your other speakers. my favorite speakers for there sound and for just bass is any of the memphis lines i went with the lowwer street edge line of memphis and they sound great you won't be disapointed look up memphis website to find a dealer near you.

Re: Need new speakers, car audio noob! need help!

I use Alpine Type S two way's. Get the three ways and you're golden for a long time. Don't buy Bose, all you pay for is the name and there are much better speakers on the market. The type S's only set me back $100 CDN. I'd only buy Kicker for their sub's, but even then, there are better speakers out there. I'd recomment the Type R's for that, they've pounded the best that I've heard yet.

PS - Don't buy Earthquake subs.

I use Kicker Impulse with NO complaints. Decent bass and mids are crystal clear with no distortion. 6x9s are midrang speakers anyway. B4 was Clarion 4 ways, can't remember the model but they were ok. Great highs but bass was out of the question. I will never purchase sony's or pioneers. They're just not what they used to be.

Re: Need new speakers, car audio noob! need help!

Bose only makes OEM auto motive speakers. They have no aftermarket sales. If you ever get a hold of any, check them out, They are the same quality as a stock speaker. Paper cone and foam surround...and they last until the cars warranty runs out. Pioneer makes a decent priced and sounding speaker, Infinity, Polk, Boston, Alpine, Kenwood...and some more. Your 1st focus should be on intent of use. If you are looking to run them off of your stock deck or any aftermarket deck, be sure to get the 20-50W RMS (NOT PEAK...pay no attention to peak power ratings). Many people assume that if they put 300W RS speakers on their stock deck, they will be loud and rock. This is wrong. The power rating on a speaker is how much power it will hold. If you put a stock 15W deck on a set of 300W RMS speakers, they will not be loud at all and sound like crap when you crank the volume up. Match your speakers with your power availible. RMS

I second this opinion...kicker 6x9's? they make alright subs SPL but not SQ! Pioneer is just not known for building any quality sounding speaker, Sony GARBAGE!!! I have installed top of the line kenwood 6x9 3 ways in my wifes van with a 250watt amp and they sound actually pretty good. I have heard many many 6x9's in 3rd gens and a few of the best sounding I have heard was infinity kappas, polk momo and actually I have heard some alpines that sounded dam good but I dont know what kind they was 2way 3way? These where all powered by an amp by the way. When I get around putting a system in my car though I am going to run somekind of 6.5" componants where the 6x9's go.

Re: Need new speakers, car audio noob! need help!

Components are the best way to go for a quality sound setup, as there arent too many 4x6's out there anymore and they still can't handle the range a good 5 1/4 or 6 1/2 comp set can. How much you looking to spend? There are lots of speakers out there for not much (i used Crystal Mobilesound with great results). A couple worth checking out are pheonix gold and cadence. www.madisound.com has some good inexpensive comps as well.

As for the rear speakers, you'll be much happier with a good setup in the front and forgetting about the back. Much more acurate representation of the recorded music.

I would stay away from the SONY stuff... Kenwood makes some really good speakers, you won't be disappointed if you go with those... I am running speakers from KAPTION audio all around and must say they are great... Can't remember the model #s, but worth checking out...

I will also vote for Infinitys. I had them in my 1989 Formula and they not only sounded great, they took a beating as well...

Yeah definatly, but not the price......... These would be major overkill, you are not running an amp. Just get some nice mid range splits, infinitys are nice, and fit them in the front. That will sound heaps better than upgrading the rear speakers.

To be honest it depends on what your looking for as far as best check out termpro.com for opinions on audio. I mean I am bass head but I love my clarity and the guys on that forum helped me out alot. I used to post there when I had my tempo and colt but now I just lurk.

if you're looking for info on sound quality, termpro is not the forum. not knocking them, but they are more spl oriented. if you're looking for sq type info, check out elitecaraudio.com or diymobileaudio.com.
