System build ?s
System build ?s
Hey everyone. Sorry for the rambling but I have a lot of questions. I'm just starting to build my system andI was wondering what you guys thought would work the best. I already have speakers (Infinity Reference 4x6's and 6x9's) so my question was just about the amp(s) and subwoofers. I was leaning towards 2-12" Alpine TypeR subs because I have listened to them and really like the sound quality but I'm not sure what amp to buy to power them. Also I was considering using that amp just for the subs and buying another smaller amp for the Infinity speakers. I'm assuming this would sound better as bass/mid/high sounds could be controlled independantly for the subs and speakers (correct me if im wrong please). If I do go the 2 amp route, what amp/power rating would you reccomend for the secondary amp (for the speakers)?? I'm not really looking for cheap, I'd rather pay a little more for a better quality amp/sub than buy something cheap and have to replace it 6 months from now but, then again, I dont need competition winning quality either. Thanks for dealing with my rambling. Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.

First question, have you replaced your factory deck yet or are you running everything off the stock one? I really would not bother trying to amp a set of 4x6s, its not going to make much of a difference and you really cant get much bass (or mids for that matter) out of those small speakers. If you're going to stick with the stock locations, just get an amp for the subs. I was very happy even off of one type-r 12", but everyone's tastes are different. i was able to get a good amount of sound even off a modest 300 watt MTX amp, so they don't need too much to hit well in a good enclosure. Any quality brand amp will do the job and you can find tons of deals on used amps on ebay. I paid $75 for that MTX and it did the job nicely. What kind of money are you looking to spend, as that will be the biggest factor in what you can do

It is not the stock head unit. I replaced it with a Sony. Since I am planning on running the 2 TypeR's I am looking for a 1000w RMS amp to power them. I'm not sure exactly what to look for so anyone's help is really appreciated. And I am alright with spending whatever it costs for a good quality amp. Thanks

well....if you do the type r 12's DVC 4 ohms, you will want to get a amp that can run 1 ohm stable at 1000 rms so you can wire the two subs parallel. (each sub can handle 500rms). But you might want to consider buying a 4 channel amp? so you can hear the words of the songs more. The infinity speakers are the same setup I'm running with a small 4channel Alpine amp.

2 12s is alot of bump, on my 98 z28 i put 2 8" rockford fosgates, and 4 6.5 alpine speakers, it sounds real good, the amp is a rockford fosgate, and my stereo is an alpine iva d900 multimedia station, 2 8s for me is good, to much thump and your car will rattle like a chinese toy

buy a four channel amp that powers your spaekers, look at their rms ratings and get an amp that will match that. for your subs buy an amp that puts out about 1200w if you need 1000, so you wont clip them unless you have your headunit clipping. buy a monoblock amp for the subs, and if their 4ohm get an amp thats stable at 1ohm and wire them down to that
