Subs pop?
Heyo. got a little problem I gotta ask
I got two JL W6V2 with a JL 1000/1 in a sealed box
It seems if I listen to anything really bassy (rap mostly) and I turn it to about 20+ volume or just turn the bass controls up my 1 subs makes a popping noise. Only the one though, that I have noticed.
I've googled and searched and read a few things. But lots of mixed answers.
Am I overpowering the subs?
Having volume at like 20 or so is loud enough for me, its almost ear bleeding loud but some songs that hit hard it makes the noise and scares the **** out of me. And I'm scared if I drive around with a passenger they might just turn it up a little to loud one day and bam.. bye bye subs

Re: Subs pop?
What that pop could be, is that your sealed box is too big for your subs. (I'm guessing its around 1 cubic foot each, or two cubic feet collectively?) Whereas there is so much air in your box, thats its not providing the suffeciant acoustic suspension it supposed to be doing, which is allowing your subs to over-excursion themselves. I'm pretty sure that "POP" you hear is the voice-coil smacking againest the back-plate. Obviously that sound is amplified since the voice-coil is attached to your subwoofer cone.
I'm sure you'd notice this on the lower bass notes right? As the lower the bass frequencies get, the more the sub cone has to move to produce those frequncies, to be at the same volume level as the higher notes.
If one sub is doing this, and not the other, that tells me the gain is set too high for one particular sub, or the box is slightly bigger on the sub that is popping. Is the sealed box one big compartment? or two individual compartments?
As the subs get older, the (mechanical) suspension components on it weaken over time, (as well as pushing a sub too hard will accellerate this significantly).
Let me know what you think... and I can go from there.
