Headunit help (pretty sure its toast)
Weeeeell long story short I was at my cars first show this past weekend aaannnddd I had my stereo on for quite a while, everything was going great, until, get this, I closed my door a little hard and the cd skipped...no big deal right? WELL I got in the car and reset the song and then.....NOTHING, stereo shut off, so..checked the fuses, all good, checked my power and grounds, all good, I have to hit the reset button on the stereo before it will turn on. But once it dose, I have to have the internal amp off or else it will just die again. and im not getting any sound, except though my subs.
BTW my headunit is a kenwood kdc-mp428
thanks

Check the connections to the speakers on the rear of the head unit.

If it started with closing the door, check all the speaker wires. How did you make the connections? Could be a bad connection on the ground or B+, could be a speaker wire shoring to ground.

And that would suck, I checked all my wires when i installed it >_< guess I gotta pop the dash...and numerous other panels to check the wires.
Any idea how I can check the wires for a short, instead of uncovering them all?

Well, you can just pull the head unit and check the connections there. Then pop the rear speakers out and check those (only sail panels come off). In the front, you'll have to take the dash pad off to check the fronts, but that's about it. Wires shouldn't be an issue, unless somehow they got pinched, but that's hard to believe.

WELL....I checked all the wires, none are grounding out, both front speakers are blowen, the they were both a pos anyways, so I re-connected them all, and now it works again >_< but now I cant turn the stero over 27/32 without the stero cutting out (wont turn back on till I turn it back down)

Leave any blown speaker disconnected until its replaced. An aftermarket deck will go into protect to keep from overheating from the low impedence of a blown voice coil.
