More stereo problems
Ok, I replaced my front speakers, they were way to big, so I made templates, now I have yet another problem. I find that when I start to turn it up loud enough and the bass starts to hit really hard, the display dims and flickers, and if I turn it even more it actually shuts off.
Battery?alternator? should I get a capacitor?

Re: More stereo problems
is it the stock head? are you running an amp to subs? That sounds like you have bad wiring or you are pushing an aftermarket head beyond it's limits.
my oem head is turned up 98% of the way while i drive on the highway and i don't have any problems. then again i don't listen to techno. lol.

Re: More stereo problems
its a kenwood kdc-mp428, and im running a 300W JBL amp, powering 2 12" visonik subs. I just replaced the font speakers with clarion 4X6 plates, and I have 6x9 sonys (which im planing on getting rid of, cause they suck) and I do play techno ocassionly, and when the bass hits really hard, the headunit dims in and out. and if it hits too hard, then it stops playing for a second.
Im thinking its the battery not supplying enough power, so that means I can:
run it off its own battery
bigger alternator
capacator
etc
but, any input is appriciated

Re: More stereo problems
when you say display do you mean the display in the head unit, or all the lights in the car?
First check all your wires and make sure everything is wired properly. If so, and it's still happening, have your alt checked. It could be your alt. isn't putting out enough to charge both the car, and the audio system.
Your system isn't that big, so you should be able to get away with the factory alt size, but a larger output one wouldn't hurt either.
It could even be a bad head unit too, something internal is acting up...
oh, and you don't want to add another battery to your system. That would just put more of a strain on your alternator.

Re: More stereo problems
if the headlights then your alt. needs an upgrade. I got a 100 amp rebuilt from o'rielies for 80 bucks and it drove my system in my el camino great. try to play it without the subs abd see if the display dims. if so then the head is the problem. if it does it when your amp is on and dimming with very punch of the bass then the alt. eithier way the dimming is bad for the system.
GOOD LUCK!!
