I have no idea what year this radio came from, but I do know that it is from a 82-92 Camaro/Firebird. So can you identify it??

It's mid to late '80s anyway, the eariler ones were generallly more of a mat finsih, not glossy like that, and there is the extra plig that I don't recall what it does at the moment.

Scroll to the bottom of the page. You can send them the model number (if it's still on the radio), and they'll e-mail you with what it came from. Took about a week for them to respond to my query.

My 87 coupe had this same one.....be carefulwhen you ell this, I had a guy try to say the one I sent didnt work wen I knew it did....

it should fit most gm's with the large radio until 89 or 90.

Looks identical to the factory radio in my `88 Iroc. It still works great.

So the concensus is that this is a radio for camaros/firebirds between the years of 87-90. That is the conclusion that I've come to. Do you guys think it would be in 91's and 92's, too??

This radio wasnt used in 87-90. Much more wide then that, It became availble in 84-92, **Radio, stereo, tape, clock, s/s, equalizer**

Most any 80's gm cars had that radio available in them. My 85 iroc had one just like it when I bought it. It was top of the line back then. It will only work until 89 for camaros and firebirds. In 90 they switched the plug style and went with a smaller antenna plug in. You can go to wal- mart to get years it will fit in. Go look for a wiring harness adapter for an 89 camaro and on the back will give you the make, model, and years that used that plug. My moms 92 s10 blazer used that plug too. Hope that helps.

Well I wuld ahve jsut done that too, but they told me there original radio wouldnt work right and then they had a shop look at mine I sent and it was opened up and stuff, out of fairness thats not right for me to take something abck thats been disected ya know, Plus I beleive they where going to send there radio back and pass it as the one I sent

my 84 had the same radio too

can anyone identify that extra wire coming out the back, looks like a plug of some sort and it's got me curious...i got mine outta '86 bird and it didn't have that extra wire/plug.

Its a real long story from october to about a week ago, but to make it short, I basically told him its not fair to me to take it back if its been taken apart and been inside of and that I know he had a problem with his previous radio so he needed to look into his cars wiring. He supposivly got his original radio he had to work and still went on to say I sent a bad radio, which wasnt true i used to use it in my car. He ended up giving the other half on my money and with some nice words we went our seperate ways.

That radio wasn't originally installed in a third gen. It has a glossy face and chrome buttons and should have had chrome ***** too. It was originally from an olds or buick or something similar and I think that extra wire was for the "Concert Sound" in those models. My guess is the stock radio died and that was a used replacement and the person simply installed the original black ***** on it.

The separate 2 wire plug is for the clock/radio memory.The antenna lead wire(pink)is built into the main plugs.And the '84-'92 use in all GM products is correct(my '83 Z28 came with it but I'm sure not original).Some had the chrome/brushed bright trim and others had either black or grey buttons.And Pontiac used the red/amber lighting which is the color of the lens in the front panel.

Well, I'am glad that you got it worked out. I wouldn't take back something that had been tampered with either.

I do think it is for the clock and radio memory also. So, this one most likely came in a Camaro or a Buick, something along those lines, but not a Pontiac.

That will not fit anything 1988 or newer. that has the older connections on it. That pigtail coming out is Brown: lights dimming and Orange: clock

So this radio is for GM vehicles besides Pontiac between the years of 1984 and 1988. Any objections from anybody?

'84-'87, it won't fit an '88 car due to where the wiring goes into the back.

Not so fast there... it's not final yet, lol! I hate to throw more confusion into this, but...

One person said it won't fit '90 and newer, and another said it won't fit '88 and newer. But they each missed the change by a year. Actually, the harness and antenna connections changed with the '89 model year. So it will fit up to, and including, 1988 cars. However, with harness and antenna adapters(available at auto parts stores and installation locations), it will work in '89 and later cars, too.

But like 86blackiroc mentioned, that isn't likely to have originally come in a thirdgen(from the factory). Its glossy face and brushed metallic buttons indicate that it's either from a more luxurious GM car line(Olds, Buick or Caddy), or it's a Delco dealer replacement. So it was most likely a swap, for whatever reason.

And one more bit of info, the EQ radio was available as early as '83, but in Trans Ams, not Camaros. I first saw them in 1983 TAs. So when I ordered my '83 Z28 HO, I wanted that radio, but it wasn't an option for the Camaro. But I foundout I could get one through a GM source, so I ordered the car with the base model radio, and I swapped in the EQ radio when I got the car.

So there ya go: '83-'88 GM cars(but would fit '82 also). Now it's final!

How much do you think this thing is worth?

I have no idea what it's worth. When it was new, it was prolly about a $400+ option. Purchased through a dealer, it might've cost about the same. But used, at its age, I doubt it's worth very much, so take whatever you can get that still lets you make a little money.

But looking at your pic again, I see it has AM Stereo and Auto DNR. AM Stereo was the 'new thing' in the mid-to-late '80s, but I'm not quite sure exactly when it began. That '83 EQ radio I mentioned didn't have it, but the touch control EQ radio in my '87 has it. And that touch model radio was first available in '85, I believe. So that's that prolly when AM Stereo first hit the air waves.

So to re-finalize it: the EQ radio was first available in 1983; it'll fit any '82-'88 GM car; but that particular radio in your possession is most likely from an '85-'88 GM car(again, doubtful it was originally a thirdgen).

to be blaintant, probably 10-15 bucks...i just scooped one up for $5, but would've been charge $10 if i didn't know the guy, mine is identical but made for a firebird (gray *****), but it doesn't have that special wire so, past that i can't really guess, if someone is trying to restore the car back to original and it's not show, then you might make $20, but really...in this age...tape players don't get much value. For your sake i hope you can get more, but just telling you what i'm seeing in junkyards near me.

That's cool man. I was thinking like $30-$40 maybe. I will definately clean it a lot better. You can tell where I tried cleaning it, but didn't do a very good job as the flash from the camera reveals.

yea like i said...then again it's believe to be a higher gm model, buick olds or something of that nature...so you might get something like that, but between on here if you tried it on the site...i don't think you would get much more...you never know, i don't know what the bose stereo's looked like but it might be compatable, and locally, i think he's liberal, if it's an old stereo that is working on over 20 years old...he doesn't do more than $10 so that he doesn't have to worry about if they don't work, probably $15 for 10 year old, and then it varies if they are under 10 years old. So he's kinda liberal, you never know...but good luck!

I agree with you there. I think I will hope for $20. I just looked on ebay and that seems to be the norm.

Thank you LAFireboyd for the info on '83 EQ radio.My Z28 is a June '83 build so it's a slim possibility to be factory but most probably a dealer swap.But then again in the 22 years before I got her who knows.

I'll throw some more confusion into the mix. Not all GM's got the newer connector in '89. I have an '89 Celebrity and a '91 S-10 that have the old style connectors in them. I was not sure about the third gens though, as my '89 and '92 Camaros both had the original connectors cut off when I bought them.

I would have guessed pre-85 just by what my own radio looks like in my 86 Trans Am. Definately the up-scale radio by Delco though. I also would have guessed Camaro only by how the trim looks on it. Going by memory I've never seen that radio in a Trans Am/Firebird that I'd been in back in or peered through the window dreaming about having one back in High School **cough**dates himself**cough**

its the exact same stereo i have in my 86 iroc , came with the ers sound package. ill trade you my broken one for yours

I stand corrected. So it looks like 92 camaros and 91& 92 birds got a different harness too?
